Mother and Baby homes
How many innocent were stolen
from dear old Ireland's shores
how many innocent were sold
from mothers and babies homes
Its five am in the morning
just before the dawning
footsteps echo in the hallway
mother stirs in her bed
Baby identified and lifted
innocent victim of crime
Clergy Gardai complicit
politicians turn the blind eye
The deal been done and dusted
one thousand pounds for the child
sold to the highest bidder
the mother screams and cries
Clergy Gardai politicians
complicit in the crimes
a lifetime of searching and heartbreak
for a mother and her child
Nobody charged with these crimes
That’s Ireland

Home alone aged care homes
Her bags upon the vinyl floor Taxi man standing by the door
Don’t worry love slow down we’ve got time She’s all alone now the cat has died
The kids no longer call or phone too frail to live here on her own
Tears they glisten in both their eyes the hardest of all are the goodbyes
Children’s toys photograph’s a torn page grand kid's drawing, fade with age
The swing, clothes line, veggie patch memories captured long since past
Her footsteps echo on the vinyl hall her arm is bruised from her fall
Strangers living now next-door neighbours gone they call now more
House sold beneath the hammer’s blow the nest is empty her kids have flown
They don’t care they will get their share a silent phone looks forlorn
Paranoia of daughter in law their lives too busy now to call
Her son’s head twisted believed the lies a stranger now tears she’s cried
The skip is waiting in the yard old furniture and photographs
Rocking chair and her art emotions bruised and torn apart
They called a few times when she had her fall, she’d slipped in the vinyl hall
They told her tales of financial woes they got the money now she knows
They tell her all she wants to hear play upon her needs and fears
She signs the papers and sighs alone betrayed now by her very own
Grand kids used as weapons pawns and tools elder abuse by greedy fools
Do they seriously think she can’t see the lie? she nods her head and cries inside
The room is empty where she gave birth the love and grace that they shared
They’ve forgotten her now what was her crime her mind it screams?
The brochure is there on the floor glossy photographs of the aged care home
Staring at memories within her mind betrayed now by her own kit and kin
The taxi man helps her down the steps don’t look back he knows what’s best
Selfishness has robbed wisdom and souls locked away in aged care homes
Now treated as commodities driven from communities
They’ll milk them dry till they die someday they will call for you and I
Flu and pneumonia, they slip away corona virus comes into play
Houses and furniture expenses paid tea and sandwiches and the grave
Love and compassion have lost their way aged care homes user pays
Can you take me home voice and eyes plead
Out of sight is out of mind I’ve hugged and loved them as they cried
Cultures destroyed it’s all there to see what has become of humanity
I have seen the elderly weep and cry in aged care homes before their time

Apple Tax
I bought and apple the other day it was rotten to the core
It left a bad taste in my mouth and I spat it to the floor
It was packed with seeds tasted of greed and had no moral ramifications
Billions of dollars in unpaid taxes to scam the poor of nations
See Steve had a dream he could change the world with his innovations
So he and Woz built a computer in the garage of creation
They named it Apple like in the garden but life is full of temptations
Ego and greed drove the machine to money power and tax evasion
They made their billions and realized they would have to share their cash
So they looked around for clowns and gobsh*tes Steve said Woz relax
We will set up in Cork in Irelands green Isle its politicians tools and tossers
They can be bought there for a few pints so we can cut those tax losses
The Irish public have been screwed by Bankers Bondsmen’s and foreign corporations
Crooked Judges N dossers’ Politicians and Coppers cronyism and mass emigration
Gombeen’s and gobsh*tes sickness and greed brought poverty to Ireland’s door
Just like the Apple I bought the other day its politicians rotten to the core
The EU has revealed the extent of your deception and tax manipulation
So return the money without further adieu to the people of the Irish nation
Yes I bought and Apple the other day it was rotten to the core
It left a bad taste in my mouth and I spat it to the floor
Ireland is the most corrupt little country in the western world

Getting old
The hardest part of getting old
Is the friends we lose along the road
The ones that loved you and made you laugh
Forever young in photographs
Moments shared in time and space
They made you smile when you’d see their face
We chased the ball and our dreams
When we scored oh how we screamed
The lads that sat with me in class
Memories carried from moments past
Always loved you never judged you
Friends are there with a friendly ear
To chase away our doubts and fears
To give you the nudge for that first date
When you were unsure they said, you were great
Always there for each other
Worked side by side just like brothers
Work mates singing as they go
The latest hits from radio shows
The joy of seeing the new dawn
Shared the happiness of the first born
Along the way, we make more friends
We learn to trust and to depend
Tunes we played as lovers danced
We witnessed love and romance
There to help with sweat and toil
We share our gifts and our joys
When the time comes to say goodbye
We speak of love touch and cry
It sad though when we get old
As we lose our friends along the road
My time will come hopefully in a while
I have lived a full life I just smile
And sing No regrets

The Rooms
Hi my name is Robert I am afflicted with a disease
Addicted to alcohol it has driven me to my knees
I have lost so many friends I have heard their pitiful cries
Some died by beer and spirits car crashes or knife
Better being in the rooms than out there on the streets
For a practising alcoholic it’s a dangerous place to be
Sleeping in the doorways you never know who you meet
Easy prey for the murderer vile ra**st or thief
The shaking of a hand cup of coffee or tea
Friendship hope and laughter, the love it set me free
Yes, it’s safer in the rooms than out there on the streets
I feeling healing power there is the safest place to be
Surrounded by the horrors that attack me from the walls
Electric fleas I vomit n stink my skin aches and crawls
A hundred times I say no more the nightmare of withdrawals
Carrying bruises and the injuries from a thousand falls
Loneliness pain and confusion rampage through the soul
No amount of dope coke or alcohol will ever fill that hole
Disowned by friends and families shipwrecked on the shore
I carry the burden of childhood beating I see the open door
I must get back to the rooms I have to get off the streets
For the lonely alcoholic it’s the safest place to be
The alcohol twists the newcomer’s mind
“Hey you’re not as bad as them”
Never lost your licence been hospital or rehab [yet]
I’ll do something about my drinking if I ever get that bad
Bodies in the rivers the doorways and the parks
The emptiness pain and confusion alleyways after dark
I must get back to the rooms I have to get off the streets
For the lonely alcoholic it’s the safest place to be
