Humility means recognising that we are all equal in worth. It is not thinking we are more important than others, but also not putting ourselves down. A humble person is open to learning, admits mistakes, and grows from them.
As Thomas Merton reminds us, “Humility is the surest sign of strength.”
When we are humble, we choose gratitude over pride. We ask for help when we need it, consider the needs of others, and learn from our experiences so we can keep improving.
Say this to yourself:
I am humble. I learn from my mistakes. I grow and improve every day.

Unity means working and living together in peace. It is about getting along with others, valuing our differences, and recognising that we are all connected.
As Ryunosuke Satoro said: "Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean".
We show unity when we treat everyone as part of one human family. We look for the good in each other, respect our differences, and choose not to join in when others speak or act with prejudice. When problems arise, we listen, show understanding, and work together to find solutions.
Say this: I choose unity. I value differences. I stand against prejudice. I care for the earth and all living things.

It was a great privelege today to welcome Mr Ted Zillman, Principal from 1985 until his retirement in 1998. Ted donated personal historical artefacts which will remain part of the school’s history.
Visiting classrooms and interacting with students and staff, he reminded us of his mantra - UMGSS stands for U Mighty Good State School - Mighty good students, staff and parents.
Year one were captivated by his story of riding his horse to school when he was a young boy.

Truthfulness is choosing to be honest in both our words and our actions. It is having the integrity to stand apart from gossip, judgment, and prejudice, and the courage to seek what is real and right.
"Be truthful, gentle and fearless."
— Mahatma Gandhi
Speak the truth with care and sincerity. There is no need to exaggerate or deceive to impress others—your authenticity is your strength. Learn to distinguish between fact and fantasy, and when mistakes are made, embrace them as opportunities for growth and learning.
Let us remind ourselves:
"I am truthful. I see the truth clearly. I have no need to impress others. I am content to be my true self."
