A few fresh “young adult” books 📚 dropped today

Complete library swap around for spring school holiday... including Larson trilogy; and the book I just finished, “Little Fires Everywhere”, by Celeste Ng. I jumped onto BCC library app and ordered her first book as soon as I finished this one which indicates how much I enjoyed it. A great comparison of different families and patanting styles, and that everyone has their individual strengths.

Other drops are some great artist/doodling books ( thanks to whoever dropped them off 🙏🏽); some kids DVDs, and some Coles Little Treehouse books 📚 📚

Happy holiday reading 📖🤓

This is one that I grabbed from the library last week-so thank you to whoever dropped it off....I loved it! .....the title is part of the mystery....and you discover that things are not as they appear behind closed doors.....and the destructive patterns of power and control in relationships.
Anyway...it’s back in the library now 📚 🤓

Fresh book 📚 review/drop. This is the first novel from Australian author, Judy Nunn, that I have read, and loved it. A story about refugees arriving on an island off the coast of Western Australia....and with a twist of a love 💕 story woven in too. It gave me a great insight into the plight of refugees, and made appreciate how lucky we are to live in Australia.

I picked this book up from an op shop, and it’s signed by the author too 🙌🏽

And on a side note...how good do my sunshine daisies 🌼🌼🌼🌼 look under the library!

Due to the extremely kind and generous donation of one of “the locals” who dropped around 3 boxes of books 📚 yesterday 😵
A completely new turn over this weekend.... so drop around and pick a new book to read this weekend 😊

Fresh book 📚 drop/review.... this is the second novel of Australian author, Christian White-his first was The Nowhere Child ( see early post on 7/1/20), which I loved.
This book would have to be one of the best twists at the end, that made me want to re-read the book straightaway to see where I missed the clues. 🧐
Each chapter alternates between The widow, and the wife, but how they are connected is the unbelievable twist. Great read 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Fresh book 📚 drop/review.
“The Good Daughter”, by Karin Slaughter.
An investigative thriller about 2 sisters, and the multiple traumas that they survive. Based around a school shooting, and an earlier murder.....connected...or not 🤷🏽‍♀️
Great characters, and gripping the whole way. I could see this book being transferred into a movie 🎥

📚Book 📚 review/drop.....

I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to read this one.... published in 2014 by Australian author, Graeme Simsion, “The Rosie Project” was a book I couldn’t put down. It’s hilariously funny, easy read, and the main character, Don, is so dorky but likeable.

There’s 2 more books in the series, but I just went to Brookside and couldn’t find copies of them. I wish we still had “real” bookshops around 🤷🏼‍♀️

Book 📚 drop/review. I just finished this true story of Australian of the year in 2015, “ Rosie Batty-a mother’s story”. Rosie’s son, Luke, was killed by his father in 2014 as a result of a long history of family violence and mental health issues. This story gives a great insight into the complexity of these issues, and the amazing tenacity of Rosie who is doing her very best to raise awareness and prevent this ongoing destructive cycle. Confronting read, but we’ll worth it 👌🏽

It’s also loveLy that I picked this book up from an op shop at Windsor, and it has a sticker on it stating it was from Kate Street Library, so recycling of books is working ♻️✅😊

May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month (DFVP Month) in Queensland.

DFVP Month is an opportunity to say Not now, not ever. Together and add your voice to those calling for an end to violence in the home. A collective stand against violence is more important than ever during these challenging times. While the necessary action to limit the spread of COVID-19 has been effective, the associated challenges including social isolation with perpetrators, possible loss of employment and financial pressures can combine to exacerbate the risk for people experiencing abuse.

Visit www.qld.gov.au/notnownotevertogether to access resources and find out how you can get involved in the virtual events and activities taking place during DFVP Month.

Book drop/review 📚📚 “Something In The Water”, by Catherine Steadman. It took me awhile to get into, but I was fully hooked by about half way. A gripping murder crime mystery, told my a documentary maker for a little twist.

I’ve also added a few DVDs 📀 🎥 to the library for anyone looking for some classics to watch whilst in lockdown.

Someone’s also dropped the full box set of Fairy books- my kids loved these when they were little so I hope a little person picks them up to enjoy soon 🧚‍♂️
