KEEP CASH ALIVE - GREAT TO SEE LOCAL BUSINESSES PROMOTING THIS.
A DLP member took a photo of a sign in a local hotel stating the reasons why CASH IS PREFERRED.
The DLP supports strongly the continued availability of cash in our society (and also does not support the current rush to end the use of cheques as a means of paying bills, etc).

WHAT ARE THE GOOD THINGS THAT WORKERS REALLY DESIRE?
Workers hold these good desires dear in their hearts:

# a satisfying and secure job
# a just wage which would cover the living expenses of a family and would make it possible for parents to fulfill their natural duty to raise healthy, nourished and clothed children
# a dwelling worthy of a human person
# the possibility of securing for their children a good education
# the ability to weather times of sickness, stress and old age without financial distress

The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) absolutely supports these good desires and, if given a chance to grow as a Party, would work so hard to ensure they are achieved.

WHAT DID SAINT PAUL ACTUALLY MEAN BY THE WORDS: “IF ANYONE WILL NOT WORK, LET HIM NOT EAT.”
Well first all this does not mean we cannot feed or look after those people who are UNABLE to work.

Pope Pius the 11th in 1931 in his encyclical “Quadragesimo Anno” described as inept and unfounded those who relied upon those words of St Paul in the Bible as a scriptural vindication of their argument that the fruits of production could be the property only of those whose manual labour produced it.

What St Paul was doing in this passage was admonishing those who refused to work though they could and ought to have done so, and admonishing us all to use our time diligently and our powers of body and mind so as not to become burdensome to others as long as we were able to provide for ourselves.

Pope Pius argued strongly that “in no sense did Paul teach that labour was the sole title giving a right to a living or to profits.”

For similar reasons the DLP fully supports having a “safety net” system for the unemployed and those with disabilities to ensure that they have enough income to be able to afford accommodation, food and the basic necessities of life.

THE DLP CONTINUES TO CONDEMN ANTI-SEMITISM – A POLICY SO RELEVANT TODAY
During its 1964 Federal Conference, the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) passed a motion to declare itself unreservedly against anti-Semitism. It specifically condemned its manifestations in Australia and the communist Soviet Union. The motion was not opposed and was carried unanimously

Speakers pointed out that many migrants had come to our shores in search of material security and refuge from war and political, racial and religious persecution. They reminded the conference attendees that, true to old Labor tradition, the D.L.P. had always stressed in all its of messages to new settlers, that it was diametrically opposed to all forms of discrimination and that it should therefore condemn anti-Semitism, which was described as a cancer of heart and mind.

Manifestations of anti-Semitism in Australia were listed such as swastikas on walls and footpaths, and on cars outside Synagogues, broken windows in Jewish offices, etc.

The greatest impact on this motion was achieved when, a selection of N**i literature, obtainable in Australia, both locally produced and imported, were presented to the conference delegates and some of the heading were read out. Turning to anti-Semitism in the Communist Soviet Union, speakers extensively quoted extracts from anti-Jewish articles in Communist newspapers and periodicals – all of which visibly shocked and disgusted the party delegates.

In light of the dramatic rise in anti-Semitism in Australia in the last few years the decision of the 1964 conference to declare itself UNRESERVEDLY AGAINST ANTI-SEMITISM (this is still DLP policy) remains so relevant.

LET'S PRAY THAT THE DLP AND ITS SUPPORTERS MAY BE A SIGN AND SOURCE OF GOODNESS, TRUTH AND BEAUTY IN AUSTRALIA. WE PRAY THIS IN JESUS' NAME. AMEN.

HOW DLP LEN SOLVED THE MYSTERY OF HIS MISSING TO***CO PIPE
DLP Len went to his front veranda to have a smoke on his to***co pipe. To his surprise the pipe was missing from the table on the veranda where he usually left it.

He looked about and found it on his front lawn about 20 metres away. He thought, “How did it get there? Maybe an animal moved it.”

So, Len decided to put up a camera and aim it towards the veranda table – in the early morning he found the culprits – two cockatoos. They were busy lifting up the objects on the table and making a bit of a mess (see the video).

Len rang his son and told him about the cockatoos. He asked, “Why do you think they are taking things off the veranda table and what do you think I should do about them?”

His son laughingly said, “Dad – it appears they are bored. Perhaps you should give them a challenge - put on the table things that you hate doing and see if they will do it for you.”

“Good idea, son. I hate doing the washup and I also hate doing my tax returns. So I will put these things on the table and see what happens.”

The next day Len rang his son and said he found the washing up and his tax return all done.

His son said, “That is great, Dad, you must be so happy now.”

Len replied, “Not really – THE WASH UP WAS DONE QUITE WELL BUT MY TAX RETURN WAS NOT WELL DONE – THE COCKATOOS LEFT OUT QUITE A NUMBER OF THE DEDUCTIONS I USUALLY CLAIM.”

LET'S WORK ON SOLVING THE SCHOOL REFUSAL ISSUE IN AUSTRALIA
What can be done to help those students who are refusing to go to school? What are the main causes for this school refusal?

Could it be due to anxiety or other mental issues, fear of being in classrooms that are disorderly, teacher shortages causing changes in routine or are there other reasons not yet identified?

Any thoughts on this issue?

CLASSROOMS, LIFE AND LEARNING
Classrooms, and life itself, are about giving and receiving opportunities to make relationships.

They are about lighting fires of wood that will last and warm themselves over a lifetime, not paper fires that flare up for a little while and give a momentary thrill.

They are about children being able to say, “I can do this. And I like doing it. And I shall do it.”

Classrooms and life get children to learn to love things. Loving is noticing, enjoying and giving yourself to it in some way.

THE MARXIST LONG MARCH
It is often claimed that school students no longer have an adequate knowledge of history or geography. Could this be a result of the so-called “Marxist long march through the institutions (including schools)”?
