What is inclusivity in the workplace?
Inclusive workplaces value the individual differences of employees. In doing so, they hold an attitude of welcoming and accepting people with different backgrounds, opinions, and abilities.
Inclusivity vs. Diversity
Diversity is making sure a company's employees are diverse in demographics like gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and more. Whereas, inclusivity is the culture that allows these different people to thrive.
As of 2020, only 55% of people say their respective workplaces have policies in place that they would consider diverse and inclusive.
Top to Bottom
To improve diversity and inclusivity in the workplace, it has to start from the top. Company leaders need to be educated in workplace inclusion. Policies need to be reassessed to ensure they benefit the diverse workforce.
And remember, "Diversity is being asked to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance." - Verna Myers, American activist
