Tough topic - weaponised passivity!

Unfortunately weaponised passivity seems rife in our neurodivergent families. There are lots of ways to analyse and make sense of this more globally and in the neurodivergent context.

**Weaponised passivity is not the same as agreed upon supports and accommodations**

Life as neurodivergent folks is overwhelming.

Neurodivergence is not an excuse for weaponised passivity though. Burnout is not an excuse. Overwhelm is not an excuse....in fact any type of neurodivergence is not an excuse.

And our (often fellow) neurodivergent family members who carry that additional burden are pushed into a corner of having overstretch themselves even further into their own exhaustion through passively exploited labour.

I was recently in the hospital having to explain my pain using the "pain scale" - which never works for me. It's way too amorphous, and yet also ridiculously defined to 10 digits for me to know if message in sending with my "number" is the one being received.

I don't know who to credit for the below scale - but I wanted to share it - it's way more concrete than others I've seen, and I'll be adding it to my medical folder for future visits.

This is a simple framework for reaching collaboration on unsolved problems.

We are much less likely to apply this with our families, and especially kids and teenagers, so we need to make extra effort to stay aware and prioritise collaboration!

Our Autistic and ADHD kids often expect equality in a world where Adultism rules - the adult is the boss and problem solver, and the child or teen has to accept our "authority".

This tends not to work...as we know.from experience. So we do need to unpack it and work on it as the adults to reach an equalising collaborative approach to unsolved problems.

Ross Greene's Collaborative and Proactive Solutions is a more detailed way of accessing equality - we sometimes work on that in sessions if it's a good fit.
