26 January is not a date to celebrate; for First Nations people it marks an invasion that led to ongoing dispossession, oppression and inequality.

It is a day of mourning, and a reminder of the survival and the resistance First Nations people have always shown.

Sovereignty has never been ceded – this always was and always will be First Nations land.

We acknowledge the tireless work of the Australian Greens First Nations Network (Blak Greens) in elevating First Nations campaigns within the Greens and across the country.

The Greens continue to fight alongside the Blak Greens and First Nations people for Treaty, Truth and Justice.

We’re all so tired of this conversation every year so we have been re thinking January 26 with others… January 26 is not a day of celebration it’s a Day of Mourning for First Nations people. 
Since 1938, this date has marked invasion, dispossession and ongoing trauma. One idea we polled that has 54% of population support is to move the public holiday to the second-last Monday in January: 
- Create a consistent summer long weekend
- Free up Jan 26 to be respectfully observed as a Day of Mourning A small significant shift- figuring out what an alternative to Jan 26 looks like or not is a conversation worth having. Property owners in Logan can take advantage the Free Trees program. There is a wide range of native and non-native trees at collection sites across logan for you to plant in your garden. Residents who present a current rates notice at the collection locations will have their notice scanned. After this they are given a token and are free to pick 3 plants from the selection available.

Your collection of Free Trees is subject to the Free Trees program terms and conditions including Council's Free Tree distribution scheme policy.
