Battered, crumbed or grilled. There's no wrong way to fish and chip it!🐟
It might be an Aussie classic, but the story behind fish and chips is a global one. From Jewish migrants bringing traditions from Portugal and Spain, to European and Mediterranean influences shaping the dish we know today. This iconic feed has travelled far and wide before landing on our Queensland tables. 🤝
Whether it's wrapped in paper by the beach, eaten straight from the box in the car, or shared around the dinner table, fish and chips are part of our multicultural food story.
Now settle the debate, where's your go-to fish and chippy? 👇

Lontano’s music travels far, but its roots run deep in Queensland 🎤
Roz and Anthony’s win in the Blues and Roots category at the 2026
Queensland Music Awards for their song 'Way Too Long', is a beautiful nod to decades of shared creativity.
They might live in different cities, Roz in Tamworth and Anthony in Brisbane, but their songwriting is stitched together through daily chats, swapped song fragments and a deep trust in each other’s stories.
Their Sicilian and Sardinian heritage, along with family histories in North Queensland cane‑farming communities, quietly shapes the heart of their music. 🇮🇹

Dragon Boat Festival has travelled far, from China to Queensland, carrying stories of courage, culture and community. 🐲
On Friday 5 June, the Gold Coast celebrates that spirit through the Harmony of Cultures Dragon Boat Festival, hosted by TongXin Chinese School.
While the school isn’t involved in dragon boating as a sport, they’ve played a big role in teaching the cultural traditions behind the festival.
The school’s connection to the festival began through cultural workshops at Varsity College, where students learned about the origins, traditions and foods of the festival and even built a giant paper dragon boat together. These hands‑on activities helped students, many Australian‑born, connect with their heritage while sharing the celebration with classmates from all backgrounds.
"The Dragon Boat Festival carries universal themes—community spirit, remembrance, resilience, and cultural identity. Sharing this tradition helps build understanding across cultures and strengthens Queensland’s multicultural community." Tongxin Chinese School, Lei Chen shared.
The festival itself dates back more than 2,000 years and honours the poet Qu Yuan, whose loyalty and integrity inspired villagers to race out in boats, beating drums and splashing water to protect his spirit. Those rituals grew into the dragon boat traditions celebrated around the world today. 🚣

Australia is full of amazing cultures, languages and stories, and the Census on 11 August helps make sure they’re all recognised. But what exactly is the Census and why does it matter? 🤔
It’s how decision makers learn what our communities need, from schools to hospitals to language services. Every five years, your answers help shape better services, deliver more support and build stronger communities.
That means your language, culture and background are key pieces of the Australian Bureau of Statistics' puzzle.
For example, some public libraries use the information to identify language needs in the local community to build their bilingual book collections and source language support materials. 📚
So how do I take part? The Census form is delivered to all homes and it's one form per household. Once completed it can be submitted online via a unique code or sent back in the mail. For those in remote or rural areas, Field Officers conduct visits to ensure everyone is counted. It's as easy as that! ✅
