What's the secret ingredient behind a great festival?

Cyprus Halloumi Festival is happening this Saturday, but an event like this doesn't just come together overnight. It takes generations of knowledge, a whole lot of heart, and passionate community volunteers rolling up their sleeves to bring it all to life.

From preparing sheftalies and halloumi to sharing stories, music and dance, the festival is a celebration of the people, traditions and community spirit that keep Cypriot culture thriving here in Queensland.

Here’s a look at what’s cooking this weekend. But why not come and experience it for yourself—they've saved you a seat at the table!

His dad's a chef. His mum's a chef. His sister's a chef. Roberto, therefore, never really had a choice. 🍝

He started at 15 in Sardinia, cooked his way through England and the Canary Islands, and came back to Australia in 2012 to see the country he was born in. Now he's at Eat Street turning pasta through a wheel of Grana Padano, cooked with his heart, which he'll tell you is the most Italian thing about him.

We're proud to share Roberto's story in partnership with Eat Street Northshore for Multicultural Queensland Month.

Pam came to Eat Street in 2013 as a customer. Looked around at the lights and the music and thought: Filipino food belongs here. Her husband Genesis said it out loud. "I think that's our name. The Filipino Street Food."

Twelve years later she's still here, still on the charcoal grill, with her brother Jay beside her and their three kids in the kitchen behind. A karinderia is a Filipino neighbourhood eatery, the kind you eat at every week, and that's exactly what they've built. Everything from scratch. Even the atchara that comes with the pork barbecue skewers, a pickled green papaya salad that takes hours and never gets shortcut. Ever.

Pam grew up in Pampanga, the culinary capital of the Philippines. Her Lola came to Australia in the 1980s dreaming of opening a Filipino restaurant. Two generations later, her recipes are feeding Brisbane every weekend.

We're proud to share Pam's story in partnership with Eat Street Northshore for Multicultural Queensland Month.

A hockey field can be more than a place to play. It can be a place to belong. 🏑💙

The Toowoomba Hockey Association Inc.’s Belong in Hockey program began by welcoming Yezidi refugees to the sport and has grown into one of Australia’s most inclusive sporting communities.

Today, Belong in Hockey Toowoomba brings together people of different cultures, ages, and abilities, helping tackle social isolation, build confidence, and forge friendships, while giving people a stronger sense of connection and belonging.

And the impact reaches beyond players. Volunteers say the program has given them a sense of purpose and helped them gain a deeper understanding of different cultures.

Toowoomba Hockey Association is also helping drive gender equality on and off the field, by creating more opportunities for women and girls to participate, lead and succeed in sport. Their legacy has strengthened community connections and set a best-practice example for community organisations across Queensland and beyond.

Please join us in congratulating Toowoomba Hockey Association. 🏆
