Meet Denise, one of our wonderful AMEP teachers from Toowoomba, who has taught a range of subjects and students across the world, from Queensland to the UK and Singapore.
Denise has seen first-hand the benefits of learning English in her time as an AMEP teacher, as her students' lives improve with their language skills and they feel a greater sense of belonging in their new community.
"My focus is to lead students to improve their English, become more independent, to be able to make better decisions about their own lives and to participate and contribute positively to the wider Australian community."
These benefits of community and belonging go beyond just her students. Denise believes that "Through learning and developing their skills, one student’s success becomes growth and success for us all."

Last month, the AMEP students in the Inala Pathways to Work class listened to a presentation by Queensland Migrant WorkWise, who equip clients with essential knowledge of Australian work rights, pay entitlements, workplace safety, and where to seek support. 👏
The Inala Pathways to Work class also prepares clients for successful participation in the SLPET (Work Ready) program by providing targeted information, practical activities, and real‑world experiences that build employment readiness and confidence. This includes excursions to local employers where they gain insight into workplace roles, employer expectations, and industry environments.
These experiences support clients to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to transition safely and effectively into SLPET.

Last Tuesday was an amazing day at the Logan TAFE Health Expo! 🚑
Our students had the incredible opportunity to connect with a wide range of health and community service providers, including Services Australia, Metro South Health, Queensland Fire and Rescue, Logan Police, and so many more wonderful organisations dedicated to supporting our community.
Students gathered valuable information packs, asked important questions, and learned about the resources available to them. The day didn't stop there – everyone enjoyed fun activities like games, beautiful Henna art, and energetic dancing classes! A huge thank you to all the vendors who came out to make this event such a success. It's days like these that remind us how strong and connected our community truly is!

To conclude National Volunteer Week in 2026, we want to highlight another of our wonderful volunteers.
Sandra is an AMEP volunteer tutor who helps support the Pre-level class in Townsville twice a week. 👏
Sandra began volunteering one year ago. She was inspired by the resilience, patience, and positivity shown by the students as they learn English and settle into life in Australia. She says that being a part of the AMEP allows her to give back to the community. She also enjoys the opportunity to learn from such a diverse group of people who have come to Townsville from all over the world.

As National Volunteer Week continues, we want to highlight some stories from our volunteer community.
Recently, a lunch was held at Inala to show appreciation for the valuable contributions AMEP volunteer tutors make to the students' progress. 🎉
Judy is an AMEP volunteer tutor who has been involved in the program for a number of years. At lunch, she was reunited with a former client, Perusi, whom she tutored back in 2015. Judy and the other tutors received appreciation certificates and personalised thank-you messages.
Thank you to Judy and her fellow volunteer tutors, who provide so much care and assistance to students learning English.

Today marks the start of National Volunteer Week! 🌞
This year's theme is 'Your Year to Volunteer', honouring the contributions of volunteers across Australia and inviting everyone to discover how giving their time and talents can create connection, purpose, and stronger communities.
We also want to celebrate our home and classroom volunteers for all the lasting positive impact they have on our students.
