This week, we celebrate National Chaplaincy Week and recognise the incredible contribution of our School Chaplain, Ms Faith Denning 💙

Faith provides a listening ear, a caring presence and support for our students, staff and families each and every day. Whether it’s through one-on-one conversations, wellbeing programs or simply being there when someone needs support, her impact across our school is felt in so many ways.

Thank you, Faith, for the care, kindness and encouragement you bring to Wavell State High School. We are grateful for everything you do to help support the wellbeing of our students and school.

Testing Day was a success for our Year 10 Engineering students! 💧⚙️ As part of their design challenge, students developed prototype water towers for farmers in rural Australia before constructing and testing their designs using balsa wood models.

The results were impressive across the board, with every tower performing exceptionally well under pressure. A special congratulations to Neve Bullen, whose design held an incredible 55kg — more than 500 times the mass of the tower itself! 👏

This project is a powerful example of Empowering Learners, Empowering Futures — challenging students to apply their learning to real-world problems, think creatively, and develop the engineering and problem-solving skills that will shape the future.

Join us in the PAC this Friday evening as our talented musicians take to the stage for the 2026 Music Showcase.

Featuring performances from Instrumental Music, Co-Curricular Music and Classroom Music, this is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the hard work, dedication and talent of our students.

Earlier this week, our Year 9 POE Academic Honours students visited the Queensland University of Technology Digital Media Research Centre as part of their The Future Is Now! unit on digital texts.

Through interactive workshops and lectures, students explored digital literacy, e-safety and generative AI, hearing from leading researchers including Professor Daniel Angus, Associate Professor Stephen Harrington and Dr Kim Osman.

Students investigated topics including the “attention economy,” misinformation online, digital inclusion and how generative AI is shaping the future of communication and technology. They also had the opportunity to experience university life firsthand while exploring the campus.

A huge thank you to the presenters, along with Mr Maclean Hanley, for providing such an engaging and future-focused learning experience for our students. At Wavell, empowering learners and empowering futures means giving students opportunities to engage with real-world conversations and emerging technologies shaping tomorrow.

Our talented musicians from Big Band (Instrumental Music) and Tarmac Field (Rock School) are ready to take the stage and bring the atmosphere to life, showcasing the incredible talent within our co-curricular music programs.

Both programs run in addition to our Programs of Excellence and continue to give students opportunities to grow their confidence, creativity and performance skills beyond the classroom.
