227 academic awards at last night’s 68th Annual Speech Night, up 11% on last year.

The biggest growth came from our junior years. 88 students in Years 7 to 9 earned an Academic Merit Award, up from 63 in 2025. That’s a 40% rise and our highest in four years.

In Years 10 to 12, 139 Subject Awards recognised our top students across 60 subjects, from Specialist Mathematics and Physics to Engineering Skills, Hospitality and Dance.

Every award reflects a student who did the work, and a teacher who expected their best and helped them get there. Congratulations to all of our 2026 recipients.

🔥 HOUSE OF CHAMPIONS 2026 🔥

First year back and our incredible Year 7–12 dancers brought the energy to the House of Champions stage this weekend!

While we didn’t take home the win, we walked away with something just as valuable – stronger connections, new friendships, unforgettable memories and a whole lot of Wavell spirit! 💙❤️

So proud of the commitment, teamwork and positive energy our dancers brought to every moment. It’s about more than the competition – it’s about the community we build along the way!

Shout out and huge thank you to alumnus Hillary Stowers from Bloodline Dance Company , who choreographed our incredible Hip Hop Crew routine 🫶

A special thank you to Box Em Up for generously sponsoring our Hip Hop Crew and supporting our dance program.

Academic Excellence in Action

This is what excellence looks like at Wavell.

Congratulations to Year 12 students Grace Langton and Elin Sunil on achieving perfect scores in their IA3s across a range of subjects.

Grace: Geography, Literature and Mathematical Methods
Elin: Engineering, Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics

Results like these don’t happen overnight. They come from showing up every day, asking questions, putting in the hours and never settling for “good enough”. They also come from teachers who push, guide and believe in their students every step of the way.

Grace and Elin, your hard work has paid off. To their teachers, thank you for helping make it happen. We couldn’t be prouder.

STATE FINALS BOUND 💙

This weekend, 40 of our dancers head to the Sunshine Coast for the Dance X State Finals.

Our Dance Excellence students and Junior Troupe take the stage on Saturday, and our Senior Troupe follows on Sunday. Behind every routine are months of early rehearsals, teachers who stayed back, and families who drove to every practice.

They earned their place at the North Brisbane Regional Competition, where they were named Regional Champions in Senior Secondary Jazz, won two special awards and placed in 16 sections.

Help us send them off 👇
Leave a good luck message in the comments. We'll read them to the dancers backstage before they perform.

Four subjects. Four full-mark results.

Congratulations to Year 12 student Keelin Wood, who achieved full marks across four of his IA3 internal assessments: 25/25 in Engineering, 25/25 in Literature, 15/15 in Mathematical Methods and 15/15 in Specialist Mathematics.

Keelin credits his results to maintaining a focused mindset, setting clear goals and dedicating consistent time to studying and retaining the knowledge required across each subject.

He is particularly proud of his results in Specialist Mathematics and Engineering, which required a significant investment of time and effort.

His advice to other students is straightforward: set a goal that genuinely matters to you, stay focused and put in the work required to achieve it.

After graduation, Keelin plans to study Mechanical Engineering at QUT through early entry. He is also working towards an ATAR above 99 and hopes to secure an academic scholarship.

Ambition, discipline and a clear direction for the future. Congratulations, Keelin - we can’t wait to see where your hard work takes you next.

If you’re looking for a school that combines high academic expectations with the support students need to achieve their goals, Wavell could be the right fit for your family.

Enrolment interviews will take place over the coming weeks. Families considering Wavell for 2027 are encouraged to complete their enrolment application and secure an interview time.
