This sitting week, two more artworks from Queensland Parliament’s Regional Council Artwork Collection are taking pride of place in the Chamber.
Originally assembled in 1979 to mark the completion of the Parliamentary Annexe, the collection celebrates Queensland’s regions through works donated by local councils and created by artists from across the state.
- Esk War Memorial and [Mount] Glen Rock by Myrtle Herman was donated by the former Esk Shire Council. A self-taught artist, Mrs Herman began painting while working as a nurse and went on to exhibit and sell her work throughout Australia and overseas.
- Council Chambers Old and New by Denis Glindemann was donated by the former Albert Shire Council. Mr Glindemann began painting at just 13 years of age and developed a lifelong passion for art.
Together, these works capture local stories, landmarks and communities, reflecting the diverse regions represented in Queensland’s Parliament.
Explore the artworks featured in the Chamber through our Online Heritage Collection, with new additions published each sitting week. https://loom.ly/1XN40M0

National Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June, and this year’s theme, All In, is a reminder that reconciliation is something we all have a role in, every day.
These dates also mark two important moments in Australia’s history: the 1967 referendum and the High Court’s Mabo decision.
If you’d like to learn more about how the Parliamentary Service is supporting reconciliation, you can read our Reconciliation Action Plan here: https://loom.ly/nM1a980

More than a symbol, Queensland’s Coat of Arms tells a story.
First granted by Queen Victoria in 1893, it is the oldest state coat of arms in Australia. Its design reflects the industries that helped build Queensland, including wheat, cattle, sheep and sugar cane.
In 1977, during Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee year, the Coat of Arms was given a more modern appearance with the addition of the brolga and red deer as supporting animals.
Visit Parliament to see it in person and discover the stories behind one of Queensland’s most significant state symbols.
What’s it like to report from inside Parliament? 🎤
Last month, students from Gold Coast electorates stepped into the world of Parliament, taking on a range of roles as part of the Youth Parliament experience.
Among them, the Press Gallery team captured the action, reporting on proceedings and interviewing Youth Members to bring the debates to life.
It’s a hands-on way to build confidence, develop communication skills and see how Parliament works from the inside.

As part of our acknowledgement of this day staff, together with invited school cultural leaders, viewed the livestream of Link Up (Qld)’s 2026 Sorry Day Breakfast at our own breakfast which featured native flavours grown in the precinct’s Reconciliation Garden; and the school leaders had a tour of parliament.
