Everyone deserves to be heard.
Many older Queenslanders tell us their biggest frustration isn't always the challenge itself.
It's feeling like nobody is listening.
Whether it's navigating services, accessing healthcare, raising concerns or making decisions about their own lives, being heard matters.
Feeling listened to can help us feel respected, valued and included.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and heard in aged care.
New aged care laws include stronger rights and protections for older people, including the right to:
✔️ make decisions about your own life
✔️ be treated with dignity and respect
✔️ communicate your needs and preferences
✔️ stay connected to your community
✔️ speak up if something doesn’t feel right.
It’s important that older people, families and carers know that support is available and that it is safe to raise concerns. The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission has released new information and resources to help people better understand their rights in aged care.

Social connection plays an important role in healthy ageing and wellbeing.
Loneliness and social isolation can affect anyone, and small moments of connection can make a real difference. As the peak body for the Queensland Social Isolation Prevention Peak, COTA Queensland supports work that helps older people stay connected to community, services and each other.
If you or someone you know is feeling disconnected, support is available through local community groups, neighbourhood centres, seniors groups and support services.

Navigating services and support can feel overwhelming at times.
Forms, waitlists, different providers, knowing who to call first, it isn’t always simple.
Clear information and knowing where to start can make a big difference.
What’s one thing that would make services easier to navigate for you?

Champion Spotlight: Dr Clyde Anderson
During National Volunteer Week, we’re recognising the people who share their time and expertise to support others. Dr Clyde Anderson is one of them.
With a background in designing energy-efficient buildings, Clyde brought deep technical knowledge to his role as an Energy Champion. But what stood out most was his ability to make complex information simple and practical. Through Energy4Seniors, he helped older Queenslanders understand their energy use, identify opportunities to save and feel more confident in their decisions.
“For those who were engaged, there were genuine learnings and discoveries of opportunities to save energy costs.”
Clyde’s contribution shows the value of combining expertise with a genuine commitment to community.
Thank you, Clyde, for the knowledge and impact you’ve shared.
