The Powerlink team joined thousands of locals at Get Ready Townsville at Riverway on Saturday, sharing storm season safety information and talking with the community about the role we play in keeping Queenslanders connected.

There were plenty of conversations, and the team even managed a snap with our Queensland State Emergency Service partners and Paddy the Platypus.

Thanks to Townsville City Councill for bringing the community together for a fantastic event focused on safety and disaster preparedness, and all those who stopped by our stall to say hello.

Powerlink has appointed Zinfra to construct critical transmission reinforcement works in Central Queensland.

Zinfra will construct the transmission line between Calvale Substation (near Callide Power Station) to a proposed Gladstone West Substation (south of Mount Larcom). Their work will also include upgrading Powerlink’s Calvale Substation.

The reinforcement of this transmission line between Calvale and Calliope River is critical for Queensland as the power system evolves.

R U OK? Day and MATES in Energy Fly the Flag Week remind us that mental health and wellbeing are just as important as physical safety.

Looking out for each other isn't about grand gestures. It's about taking the time to connect, check in and help people feel seen, valued and supported. It's about creating a workplace where people feel comfortable having honest conversations.

Supporting mental wellbeing is something we all contribute to every day. Taking the time to check in with colleagues, friends and family members can make a meaningful difference, any day of the year.

This Electrical Safety Fortnight, we're encouraging Queenslanders to PLAN. LOOK. ACT. before starting work near overhead or underground powerlines.

The simple framework supports safer worksites by helping teams identify risks, stay aware of powerlines throughout a task, and implement controls to keep people and equipment out of exclusion zones.

✅ PLAN – identify overhead and underground powerlines before work begins, understand exclusion zones, and seek safety advice if work could occur near the electricity network.
✅ LOOK – look up, down and all around for powerlines, remain aware of them throughout the task, and always treat powerlines as energised.
✅ ACT – implement effective controls to prevent people, vehicles, machinery and equipment entering exclusion zones, and review those controls if conditions change.

Recent incidents show how quickly work near powerlines can turn dangerous. Taking a few moments to discuss risks before work starts can help prevent serious consequences.

Behind every worker is a family, a group of friends, and a community who depend on them.

Powerlink has awarded a major construction contract to Consolidated Power Projects to build part of the critical Calvale to Calliope River Reinforcement Project.

CPP will construct 20km of the new transmission line between Powerlink’s Calliope River Substation (near Gladstone) to a proposed new Gladstone West substation (south of Mount Larcom).

Central Queensland businesses are invited to attend a series of industry information sessions hosted by Powerlink Queensland in partnership with the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP).

With major transmission projects progressing and construction activity increasing across the region, the sessions will provide insights into current and future supply chain opportunities.

Attendees will hear from Powerlink and principal contractors delivering major project works about supplier engagement, procurement processes, upcoming opportunities, and what they look for in tender submissions. DSDIP will also share practical advice to help businesses strengthen their tendering capability and competitiveness.
