Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens wouldn’t be the same without our wonderful volunteers. 🌿

Our volunteer guides and welcomers generously give their time to share their knowledge, passion and love for our gardens with visitors from near and far.

It was wonderful to host a special morning tea at City Hall to thank these incredible volunteers and recognise those celebrating 10, 15 and 20 years of service, as well as those retiring after years of dedication.

Thank you for helping make our Botanic Gardens such special places to visit! 👏

⛈️HEAVY RAINFALL ⛈️

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms which could affect parts of Brisbane today (Thursday 22 October).

Up to 80mm rain is forecast, but we’re ready to assist with more than 140,000 sandbags available to collect for free at our five depots across the suburbs.

Continue to stay informed by checking the BOM website and making sure you’re subscribed to our Brisbane Severe Weather Alerts to automatically receive BOM’s severe weather warnings via text or email.

Brisbane’s generosity was in full bloom! 🌸

A huge thank you to everyone who came together to support Brisbane residents doing it tough at the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust 75th anniversary event.

Nina and I are incredibly grateful for the kindness and generosity shown by everyone who helped make the evening possible.

For 75 years, the Trust has been helping grassroots charities provide care, comfort and practical support to people who need it most.

It’s this generosity and community spirit that makes Brisbane such a special place to call home.

Thank you for helping us make a real difference in the lives of fellow Brisbane residents.

My heart goes out to the victim of last night’s horrific dog attack in Chermside.

Both dogs involved have been found and are no longer a threat to the community.

I want to reassure local residents that we are working with the Police and are treating this matter extremely seriously.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own neighbourhood and this horrific incident is a devastating reminder of why dog owners must take responsibility for keeping their pets safely secured.

As we head into Brisbane’s severe weather season, preparation and coordination are key to keeping our community safe. 🌧

This week's Local Disaster Management Group meeting brought together emergency services and key agencies to discuss the latest weather outlook, disaster preparedness and our city’s resilience.

These meetings provide an important opportunity to share information and strengthen coordination.

While we can’t control the weather, we can make sure Brisbane is as prepared as possible for whatever comes our way.

Thank you to our emergency services personnel and everyone working behind the scenes to help keep Brisbane safe. 👏
