Floodwaters of the Diamantina River spread out as they close in on Lake Eyre. Truely one of the great epic journeys as the floodwaters travel hundreds of kilometres to terminate not in the ocean but in the desert.

Famously attributed to the setting of the song Waltzing Matilda, it sadly sits underwater as the upper Diamantina River is still in flood. A key environmental and historic site, it’s a reminder that the flood event affects all parts of the regions life, environment and history.

Sadly recent rain upstream of longreach has the Thomson River rising quickly .. while this will initially impact Longreach, this water will quickly move downstream and add additional flood water to the flood areas to the South ..

Infrastructure remains submerged..the cleanup will be long 😢. Here the Showgrounds of Stonehenge are becoming more visible now that the initial peak is dropping.
