Pakistan: Karachi factory fire – not a “national” tragedy but product of class exploitation

"And so in capitalist society we have a democracy that is curtailed, wretched, false, a democracy only for the rich, for the minority. The dictatorship of the proletariat, the period of transition to communism, will for the first time create democracy for the people, for the majority, along with the necessary suppression of the exploiters, of the minority."

For those of you who don't know about Marikana and the union action that is going on here's the executive summary.
The workers in Lonmin's Marikana platinum mine are being paid a sum of roughly $500 per month for back breaking work in very very dangerous conditions, in South Africa this gets them little. They live in substandard accommodation with bare infrastructure. The workers are fighting for a pay rise to roughly $1200 per month, this is not out of greed! It is out of disgust and being fed up with their treatment. In the course of the strike, police shot and killed 34 miners in "self defence" which is a lie because a significant amount of the dead were shot in the back. Lonmin refuses to budge and even had the balls to put forward a peace accord which contained no acknowledgement of their pay dispute. The miners are continuing to strike, they are standing up to the greedy capitalists of Lonmin, they will not let their comrades die for nothing.

So fire away ladies and gents, lets get active. Hit us up with your thoughts. :)
