What began on the Gold Coast as a startup developing hybrid rocket engines has grown into one of Australia's leading aerospace companies. πŸš€

Today, Gilmour Space Technologies designs, manufactures and launches rockets and satellites from South-East and North Queensland, creating high-skilled jobs, driving advanced manufacturing, and strengthening Australia's sovereign space capability. πŸ“ˆ

Home to the nation's first licensed commercial orbital launch facility, the Bowen Orbital Spaceport and the Eris orbital launch vehicle represent a significant milestone for Queensland's growing space sector and Australia's domestic access to space.

Queensland's innovation ecosystem has supported this journey from the beginning. Early backing through the Queensland Government's Knowledge Transfer Partnerships Program helped accelerate the development of critical rocket technology, laying the foundations for future growth. In 2026, the company secured $230 million in private equity funding, highlighting growing investor confidence in Queensland-developed innovation 🀝

Gilmour's success demonstrates what's possible when research, industry, investment and government work together to turn ideas into impact. Beyond technological achievement, the company is creating economic opportunities in regional Queensland and inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, manufacturing specialists and innovator πŸ‘‰ https://bit.ly/4ylwfwM

The Queensland Government's new Science and Innovation Strategy, Ideas into impact: From discovery to delivery will continue to unlock investment, grow emerging industries, activate partnerships and create jobs across the state.

By connecting researchers, universities, businesses, founders, investors and communities with the support they need, we're helping transform great ideas into real-world outcomes that deliver lasting benefits for Queenslanders.

Turning e-waste into opportunity β™»οΈπŸ’‘

What if end-of-life technology could do more than avoid landfill?

Queensland-based, First Nations-owned social enterprise WV Technologies (WV Tech) is helping organisations securely recycle and repurpose technology while creating meaningful social and environmental outcomes.

Each year, WV Tech manages nearly two million kilograms of electronic waste, recovering valuable materials, extending the life of IT equipment through refurbishment and reuse, and ensuring sensitive information is securely destroyed to the highest global standards.

But the impact goes beyond e-waste. Through its connection to the Worldview Foundation, WV Tech reinvests profits into community programs and creates employment and development pathways for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Supported through Queensland's innovation ecosystem, WV Tech demonstrates how homegrown innovation can deliver commercial success while advancing sustainability, strengthening communities and creating lasting impact.

Have Your Say – Join the Stormwater Challenge Ideation Process

The Stormwater Challenge is being delivered under the GBR Urban Technology and Innovation Fund, jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments.

We are hosting ideation sessions in October, exploring how innovation could help address stormwater impacts on the Great Barrier Reef, including how new approaches can be tested, adopted and scaled.

To participate, you can register for one of two online sessions:
βž• Thursday 8 October 2-4pm: https://bit.ly/3TP9p2r
βž• Wednesday 14 October 9:30-10:30am: https://bit.ly/47opyiF

The Stormwater Challenge needs to be informed by people with different experiences and roles across the sector.

Your perspective matters.

Queensland is where great ideas become real-world solutions. 🌍

The Queensland Government's new Science and Innovation Strategy, Ideas into Impact: From discovery to delivery, sets a clear plan to accelerate ideas, unlock investment and activate partnerships that help turn innovation into real-world outcomes.

A key action under the strategy is the establishment of Queensland's new Chief Innovator role. ☝️

Working alongside the Queensland Chief Scientist and leading the Office of Commercialisation, the Chief Innovator will help connect researchers, entrepreneurs, industry, investors and government to strengthen commercialisation pathways, support investment-ready ventures and unlock greater value from Queensland's ideas, talent and research capability.

This is a unique opportunity to help more Queensland ideas become businesses, more businesses become industries, and more industries create jobs for Queenslanders.

If you have a track record in innovation, commercialisation, investment, entrepreneurship or economic development, we'd love to hear from you.
