We recently developed a project webpage and video resources to help promote the great work achieved by local landholder groups across western NSW through the Perennial Pastures, Resilient Rangelands project 🌱

Work across the 3 communities of practice saw positive outcomes for perennial pasture growth, creating a more productive system and greater biodiversity 📈

In addition, these communities of practice developed strong networks across different land types united in common purpose 🤝

You've seen the moths... but have you spotted any plague locusts? 🦗

While seasonal moth activity has been making headlines, we want to hear about locust sightings across NSW.

Whether you're seeing a few locusts around the property, groups gathering in paddocks or larger numbers moving through an area, your observations help us build a clearer picture of locust activity across the state.

Reports from landholders, along with our aerial and ground surveillance, help track activity, identify hotspots and understand locust movement across the landscape, allowing us to support landholders quickly.

Your local knowledge plays an important role in helping us monitor locust populations and prepare for future activity.

📞 Report sightings to your local biosecurity officer on 1300 795 299.

Landholders in our region have a great opportunity to access a professional wild dog trapper at a subsidised rate through the Western Professional Wild Dog Controller program 🧑‍🌾

The program supports:

✅ landholders to access professional wild dog trappers to control wild dogs on their property at a subsidised rate
✅ landholders to increase their awareness, knowledge and in some instances capacity to trap and control wild dogs on their property
✅ an integrated approach to wild dog control through a range of control methods.

Since the program commenced in 2020, almost 100 landholders have proactively engaged in the program, with more than 140 wild dogs controlled and removed from the landscape, helping protect livestock and reduce the impacts of wild dog predation.

If you have an issue with wild dogs and are interested in participating in the program, contact us via 1300 795 299 or [email protected] 📱

Landholders have a great opportunity to explore 4 years' worth of rangeland pasture monitoring data and discover how the findings can support practical grazing management decisions at our upcoming field day 🌱

The field day will look at trends in pasture quality, changes in groundcover and the impacts of seasonal variability, demonstrating how monitoring data can help landholders make more informed and timely decisions.

The day will also explore groundcover decision trigger points, which can provide 3 - 6 months' early warning of declining groundcover and feed availability, helping landholders plan ahead and respond proactively.

📅 Thursday 12 November, 9 am - 1:30 pm
📍 Oxley (near Balranald), property address upon registration

Morning tea and lunch provided. For further information, contact NSW Government Local Land Services' Christine Plummer via 0408 241 200 or [email protected].

We are continuing to deliver a major project to address soil erosion and habitat loss to help protect the grey range thick-billed grasswren (Amytornis modestus obscurior) 🌱

While the construction of banks or structures to mitigate erosion and degradation will not commence until early next year, some early discussions have begun to identify new properties and sites for the project.

The White Cliffs and Packsaddle areas are considered a priority, with the project being guided by data of where the grey range thick-billed grasswren is predicted or known to occur.

Property visits may be undertaken with a landholder to confirm the presence of suitable habitat for the grey range thick-billed grasswren.

If this is confirmed, staff then work with the landholder to identify a degraded area or erosion issue that can be rehabilitated through targeted soil banks or structures, resulting in improved vegetation condition and habitat.

This 5-year project will be delivered until June 2028. Find out more via our website 🔗 https://bit.ly/43QJRUr
