πŸš’ DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

Stage 1 of the Physical Aptitude Test (PAT) includes a Simulated Reduced Visibility Search.

Wearing a frosted mask to significantly reduce visibility, candidates complete a task designed to assess their ability to function when they can’t rely on sight.

πŸ”₯ This stage helps assess:
β€’ Functional capability in reduced visibility
β€’ Ability to work in dark and confined spaces
β€’ Response to restricted vision and enclosed environments
β€’ Suitability for conditions firefighters may encounter operationally

Firefighters don’t always get clear air and perfect visibility. Smoke, darkness and confined spaces can quickly change the environment.

The PAT helps ensure candidates have the capability to operate safely when conditions get challenging.

πŸ”₯ WHAT IS THE PAT?

The Physical Aptitude Test (PAT) assesses whether candidates can safely meet the physical demands of firefighting. (Fire and Rescue NSW Careers)

It’s a practical, job-related circuit that includes:

πŸ”¦ Reduced visibility search
πŸͺœ Ladder simulation
πŸ’ͺ Jerry can carry & stair climb
πŸ› οΈ Rescue tool holds
πŸš’ Hose drag
πŸ”₯ Fire attack simulation
πŸ§‘β€πŸš’ Firefighter rescue

It tests strength, endurance, coordination and functional capability while performing tasks based on real firefighting demands.

It’s not about being the fastest or the strongest. It’s about being physically capable of doing the job safely.

Very windy conditions kept Bundanoon 242 busy this afternoon 🌬️🌳

In the early arvo we were called to a tree down across a van and blocking the road, with powerlines right nearby. Luckily no one was hurt and the lines stayed intact.

With a hand from Wingecarribee SES, we cut up and cleared the tree and got the road open again.

A pretty good outcome considering where it landed! πŸš’

Today Bundanoon 242 crew responded to a house fire in William Street, with fire burning in the roof space near the chimney.

Joined by our friends from Moss Vale Fire & Rescue Station 385 and RFS crews from Bundy and Wingello, we extinguished the flames by pulling down internal ceilings and drenching the roof space.

A close call, but a good outcome in the end. Great teamwork all round! πŸ”₯πŸš’

A car carrying two people and a corgi took an unexpected detour off the road, over a creek, and into a ditch yesterday afternoon between Exeter and Bundanoon.

Bundanoon 242 was tasked by NSW Ambulance as the Community First Responder crew, providing initial patient care on scene.

As qualified road crash rescue operators, we then supported NSW SES with vehicle stabilisation and patient extrication. RFS crews provided fire protection, while NSW Police managed the scene.

Both patients were safely removed and handed into the care of paramedics.
