A total fire ban is in place for the Greater Sydney area tomorrow (Monday 12th October) which includes Bundeena and surrounding areas.

A Total Fire Ban will be in place tomorrow, Monday 12 October 2026, for the Greater Sydney area with forecast Extreme fire danger and the Greater Hunter area with forecast High fire danger. Warm and windy conditions are forecast across parts of the state, increasing the fire danger.

Take action now. Know your fire risk and what you will do if fire threatens. Report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

Get Ready Weekend – Bundeena

Bush fire season is approaching, and now is a good time to make sure you and your family are prepared.

Come and have a chat with us about how you can prepare:

A total fire ban is in place today (Saturday 5th September) within the Greater Sydney area, meaning no fires are allowed in the open.

During a total fire ban, walking trails within National Parks are also closed. Stay updated with local alerts on the NPWS website, and monitor incidents in your area using the Hazards Near Me app.

With strong winds and relatively low humidity forecast, fire danger will be elevated across our region tomorrow.

Greater Sydney - EXTREME Fire Danger with a Total Fire Ban in place.

Illawarra/Shoalhaven - HIGH Fire Danger.

Under Extreme Fire Danger, fires can be difficult to control and may spread quickly. With a Total Fire Ban in place, there are restrictions on what activities can be undertaken outdoors.

Please avoid any activity that could start a fire, check conditions before heading outdoors and follow the advice of emergency services.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by last night's tragic incident and the volunteer community.

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.
