The Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) will commence within Southern Tablelands from tomorrow 1st of October.

This includes the following local government areas:

• Goulburn Mulwaree
• Upper Lachlan
• Yass Valley

From this date, anyone intending to conduct a pile burn or other permitted burn must obtain a Fire Permit before lighting the fire.
Obtaining a permit is only one part of the process. If you are planning to undertake a burn, please follow these important steps:

1).Check

Before applying for a permit, confirm your burn can be undertaken safely and legally by assessing the burn, surrounding fuels, weather conditions, available equipment, and site-specific risks.

2).Obtain a Permit

During the Bush Fire Danger Period, a valid Fire Permit is required before lighting your burn.
Apply online at: https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp

3).Notify

Once suitable conditions have been identified and you intend to proceed, you must provide at least 24 hours' notice before lighting your burn.

You are required to:

• Notify the NSW RFS online via the Guardian portal:https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp
• Notify all adjoining neighbours of your intention to burn

As we head into the final weekend before the Bush Fire Danger Period officially kicks off. Before you light up, you must fulfill your legal obligations to keep our community safe.

NOTIFY RFS & NEIGHBOURS: You are legally required to provide at least 24 hours' notice. Lodge your burn notice online via the NSW RFS Portal (www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify) and let all adjoining neighbours know.

KEEP IT SAFE & MANAGEABLE:
• Piles should be max 2m wide/long and 1.5m high, cleared of surrounding vegetation.
• Only burn dry, natural vegetation—no household waste or plastic.
• Check the wind and weather forecasts before lighting.
• Have a dedicated water supply ready and NEVER leave the fire unattended.
• Ensure the pile is completely extinguished before you walk away.
Failing to notify the RFS and your neighbours is an offence. Let’s work together to prevent unnecessary 000 calls and escaped fires.
For full guidelines, head to the NSW RFS Safe Burning Guide: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/safeburning

Bungonia RFS with the support of the Veolia Mulwaree Trust, has been able to purchase a fire hose washer, it will help get the soot off our hoses.

Cleaning hoses prevents toxic residues from transferring to the fire truck, the fire station, or the firefighters' hands.

A heartfelt thank you from the Bungonia Brigade to Veolia for granting our wish.
