🐨 KOALA BREEDING SEASON IS HERE, AND THAT MEANS THERE'S A WHOLE LOT OF BUSH GETTING EXPLORED IN MORETON BAY! 😅

To help these h***y little herbivores stay safe, City of Moreton Bay installed another 49 fauna escape hatches earlier this year, bringing the total to 65 across our roads and rail corridors.

Think of them as little one-way doors that help koalas come… and go safely back to bushland if they become trapped behind roadside fencing.

With koala breeding season running from August to February, it’s an important reminder to slow down and keep an eye out for wildlife, particularly around our local bushland corridors.

Have you spotted any koalas out looking for love lately, or noticed one of our wildlife escape hatches? Let me know in the comments! 🐨👀

NO, THOSE AREN’T MORETON BAY FUEL PRICES! 😂🌧️

Believe it or not, those numbers are rainfall totals in millimetres recorded across Caboolture, Morayfield, Burpengary and Narangba in just 24 hours!

And some of these figures are absolutely staggering! 😳

🌧️ Widespread falls of 250–350mm
🌧️ Numerous locations recording 350–400mm
🌧️ One location near Lilywood recording an incredible 407mm!

To put that into perspective, 407mm is more than 400 litres of rain falling on every square metre of ground!

Even more remarkable is that much of this rain fell in just 4–7 hours on Thursday morning, triggering dangerous flash flooding, widespread road closures and multiple flood rescues.

A huge thank you to our emergency services, SES volunteers and everyone who helped keep our community safe. 👏

Thanks to Thomas Hinterdorfer: Extreme Weather Chaser for the graphic 👏🏻

⚠️ A STARK REMINDER OF THE DEADLY CONSEQUENCES OF FLOODWATERS

The location shown in this video is the very same stretch of Morayfield Road at Burpengary Creek where 75-year-old Robert Duk Man Leong tragically lost his life in floodwaters on 1 May 2015.

That night, his vehicle was swept away by rapidly rising floodwaters. His wife managed to escape and cling to a tree before being rescued. Tragically, Robert never made it home.

Eleven years later, this is a heartbreaking reminder of just how quickly floodwaters can turn deadly.

No destination, appointment or shortcut is worth risking your life for.

Please, if you encounter a flooded road, don’t attempt to cross it. Even if you know the road, even if you’ve driven it a thousand times, and even if you think your vehicle can make it.
