Congratulations 🎉12 ART student, Sumina on receiving a commendation in the Creative Generations Awards for Excellence in Visual Art for her projected animation, 'Roots'! At the Energy Exhibition opening at the Tanks, Sumina also took out the Cairns Art Gallery Curator's Award. 🙌Congratulations Sumina!
Read Sumina's artist's statement here: What memories shape who we become? Roots explores how objects can become an artefact of identity and belonging. Animating a traditional Mongar garment and tree roots with the sounds of breath and heartbeat, I communicate the ebb and flow of connection between my cultural heritage, family and personal growth. The garment represents my cultural identity while roots growing and contracting like blood flow or breathing reflect my connection to family and where I come from. 🌳🥰
