Through active advocacy, with the support of the residents of Central and North Queensland, cause the Queensland Government to initiate the process of creating a new state.

29/09/2026

It is commendable that Bob Katter and the KAP are keeping the the New State conversation ticking over. This news item highlights the for a need to have all advocates of a Northern Queensland on the same page regards defining the border and promoting it with one voice.

The Northern Australian Infrastructure Facility Act 2016 has gifted the million residents of Central and North Queensland (CANQ) a Northern Queensland border which is recognized by both the Commonwealth and the Queensland State government. The KAP needs to officially adopt the NAIF boundary of Northern Queensland as the border for a NORTHERN QUEENSLAND STATE.

We only need to find six Central and North Queensland LNP members prepared to put the interests of our more than one million residents ahead of those of the four million residents of South East Queensland.

They need not champion the creation of a new Northern Queensland State. They need only recognize that it is fair and reasonable for the people of Central and North Queensland to be afforded the opportunity, through a referendum under Chapter VI of the Australian Constitution, to decide for themselves whether they want to pursue the creation of a new State.

Consent of the State Parliament is NOT an insurmountable problem.

Australian Constitution, Chapter VI Section 124
A new State may be formed by separation of territory from a State, but only with the consent of the Parliament thereof, and a new State may be formed by the union of two or more States or parts of States, but only with the consent of the Parliaments of the States affected.

The requirement for State parliamentary consent should not be treated as an insurmountable barrier to the creation of new States.

Since 1988, the Liberal–National Coalition has held government in New South Wales for five terms. On only one occasion could the Liberal Party have governed in its own right. During the other four Coalition terms, the National Party had a significant opportunity to use its position in government to negotiate support for New State referendums for the two major regional territories of Northeast New South Wales (New England) and the Riverina.

Yet the Nationals continually failed to do so.

While remaining politically tied to the Liberals, the National Party has appeared increasingly disconnected from the consequences of electoral redistributions that have progressively abolished rural and regional electorates. At the same time, it has failed to adequately respond to the loss of its traditional electoral base—first to the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party (SFFP), and now increasingly to independent candidates who have consolidated support in regional communities.

The growing influence of One Nation in rural and regional New South Wales adds another layer of uncertainty to the Nationals’ already precarious position.

If the National Party genuinely wants to reclaim and strengthen its traditional regional constituency, it needs more than another round of electoral promises. It needs to offer regional communities a compelling vision of political self-determination.

Committing to facilitate referendums on the establishment of New States in both Northeast New South Wales (New England) and the Riverina could provide precisely that vision.

The Nationals should recognize that Section 124 does not make New State creation impossible. It requires political negotiation and the consent of the relevant State Parliament. That consent must ultimately be won through political advocacy.

The challenge, therefore, is not whether consent can be obtained—it is whether the National Party has the political courage and commitment to pursue it.

If the Nationals want to redeem themselves in their traditional regional strongholds, supporting the right of the people of New England and the Riverina to decide their constitutional future through New State referendums could be their pathway to redemption.

Unlike those advocating for a Norther Queensland State that has been gifted a border recognizes by both the Commonwealth and Queensland government under the Northern Australia Infrastructure Act 2016, the advocates of a Northern New South Wales State will need to determine and justify the border for a viable New State.

Those advocating for a New State have to be in control of the conversation and from the start, determine their border that ensures that the Referendum YES Vote wins the day.
Causing the State government to legislate a Referendum Question that can be won is everything!

There are now New State groups in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland actively engaging with each other to develop a unified approach and generate a greater awareness that our regional areas need Statehood to halt the capital city ideologues from riding roughshod over our communities to validate their virtues.

Episode 170
Getting on the Same Page
The road to perdition is paved with both good intentions and malice. At times, unfortunately, there are instances when there is little difference between the outcomes of either, especially when the primary stakeholders have little to no understanding of each other’s aspirations or any broker acting on their behalf is simply seeking gain personal advantage or self-actualization. While colonial Australia was littered with conflicts between cultures, of the scars left, there is none so deep and enduring as those instituted by the pious George Augustus Robinson, the first ‘Protector of Aborigines’ that set this nation on a course of separation for more than a century. Even today the actions of the virtuous do not seem to be improving the lot of those they purport to represent.

As a social scientist and prominent commentator on Aboriginal affairs, he has had the opportunity to write on Aboriginal topics and mental health, both in academic journals and popular media.

Anthony uses his qualifications and skills to question the orthodoxies and present ideas that are often not popular—something he has been doing for more than two decades. He is most passionate about Aboriginal affairs and believes that political correctness, and in particular, the stifling of free speech, has done and continues to do incalculable damage to Aboriginal people.

Most recently, Anthony acted as a public intellectual to discuss problems on the proposed Indigenous Voice to parliament. He fought passionately against the Voice, because he believed that had the referendum succeeded, there would have been even greater restrictions of what could be said on Aboriginal affairs. He has had several thought-provoking articles published in The Australian, The Conversation, Daily Telegraph, Herald Sun and the ABC Drum online.

Episode 169
Pro Nature, Doesn’t Need to be Anti Human
Those currently controlling the narrative on the natural environment see no place for civilized humans and their technologies within that landscape, with the exception of ‘renewable’ energy generation. It is effectively a Year Zero doctrine. Yes, humans have and some continue to harm the natural environment but we also have the capacity to restore, manage, improve, enjoy and create a mutual benefit for both. Locking up vast tracks of tracts of Cape York to be left to the vagaries of nature is a recipe for the impoverishment of its communities, we must embrace a better solution.
