That’s a wrap on two wonderful days in Rockhampton! 🌿

Grateful to have spent these two days learning and working together on Darumbal Country.

It was a pleasure to co-facilitate ‘Walking Alongside: Counselling with Survivors of Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence’ with Sue Kitchener, supported by Workup Queensland.

Such a thoughtful and generous group of practitioners, bringing curiosity, experience and a commitment to strengthening their work in the DFSV counselling space.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for two days of learning, reflection and connection. 💚

Practising what I preach 🌿

Taking some time away from work for family, adventure and rest in Vietnam. A chance to slow down, explore somewhere new and enjoy life beyond work!

I spend a lot of time encouraging practitioners to make space for their own wellbeing…this is me making space for mine, too.

Back to work mid-October, ready to reconnect and begin wrapping up 2026! 💛

Child Protection work is so tough but there are moments of hope that keep you going…

Such a powerful reflection here from Reza. I recommend this documentary, The Department, for all who work in the CP and family support space. It really resonated with me - both in thinking about the experiences practitioners can bring with them into this work, and the moments of hope and connection that help sustain us in it. 💛

As the season changes and we head towards the end of the year, I’ve been having some really great conversations with organisations about how they can support their teams through what can be a particularly demanding time. 🌿

A big thank you to the organisations who’ve invited me in recently to facilitate team connection, reflective practice and wellbeing sessions. 🙏

It’s so encouraging to see organisations making dedicated space to support their people, recognising the additional pressures this time of year can bring for practitioners and for the individuals, families and communities they work alongside.

Sometimes we all need space to pause, reflect and reconnect.

I have a little availability remaining in November and early December for teams who might benefit from some supported time together as 2026 starts to wrap up!

A lovely way to round out a big Child Protection Week. 💜

Last week I had the pleasure of facilitating CROSSROADS at Inala Community House with another wonderful group of practitioners.

Thoughtful, engaged and genuinely committed to child-centred practice - with some great conversations about looking beyond behaviour, listening to children and young people, and thinking about what they might really need from the adults around them.

Such a positive group to spend two days learning alongside. 🌿

What do children and young people who are harmed by violence and abuse need to hear from the adults around them? 💛

“I believe you.
I hear you.
I see you.
You can say no.
This does not define you.”

Two great days in Caboolture facilitating “Walking Alongside: Supporting Children and Young People Impacted by Domestic, Family & Sexual Violence” with the wonderful Kristy Barker.

Such a thoughtful, engaged group of practitioners, bringing so much wisdom, care and reflection into the room.

And a big thank you to Jade and the team at Workup Queensland for making these spaces for learning and connection possible. 🌿

A big week ahead next week, with **two workshops focused on supporting children and young people impacted by domestic and family violence.** 🌿

This is an area of practice I continue to feel deeply passionate about...keeping children and young people visible, listening deeply to their experiences and making sure their needs and voices remain firmly part of our work.

Back home after two wonderful days in beautiful Townsville facilitating CROSSROADS. 😊

This one brought together three of the parts of my work that I really love most: regional and rural practice, keeping children and young people at the centre, and talking openly about violence and abuse and the impact it has across relationships, families and communities.

And what a great group to have those conversations with! Family support workers, early childhood educators, foster and kinship care workers, school staff, counsellors, case managers and court support workers…people coming from different parts of the service system, but all with our attention focussed on children and young people impacted by domestic and family violence.

The more I do this work, the more passionate I become about early intervention in the DFV space. Children and young people need adults around them who understand what they have experienced, recognise how violence can shape their behaviour, relationships and sense of safety, and know how to respond in ways that support healing, connection and safety.

The people in this room are doing that work every day 🙌 It is such important work 🧡

Thank you to this generous group for everything you brought to the room over the two days…your experience, questions, reflections, humour and willingness to share 👏

A particular shout-out to Karen from The Smith Family Communities for Children program, and to the team at DVNQ Domestic Violence North Queensland for working alongside Inala Community House to coordinate and make this training happen. There is always so much work behind the scenes in bringing practitioners together, particularly in regional communities, and I’m very grateful for it.

And thank you to Inala Community House for continuing to trust me with the delivery of CROSSROADS and the opportunity to keep these important conversations happening 💜

I’m excited to be facilitating this workshop in Caboolture, alongside the wonderful Kristy Barker. 🌿

Supporting children and young people impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence is an area I continue to feel deeply passionate about and committed to.

Too often, children’s experiences can become invisible when our attention is understandably drawn to the adults around them, or their distress is understood only through their behaviour.

Children and young people are not simply witnesses to violence. They experience fear, coercion, disruption and uncertainty in their own right, in their bodies and their spirits…and their experiences, needs and voices deserve to be heard.

Walking Alongside: Supporting Children and Young People Impacted by Domestic, Family & Sexual Violence will bring us together for two days of learning, reflection and practical exploration of how we can better walk alongside children and young people in ways that support safety, connection, healing and hope.

📅 Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th of September 2026
🕘 8:30am - 4:30pm
