If so please join us on the 22nd of April for a FREE night of information and conversation - to consider what this means for the young person in your life, and what this means for you in your role as a supporter and a parent/caregiver.

Yesterday, Zig Zag got to join the University of Qld (UQ) community as they celebrated Respect at Uni Week – Raising Awareness of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.

It was great to talk with so many students about their ideas on Respect and Relationships. We really appreciated people taking time to consider the issues and talk about some of their own experiences. Discussions covered things such as:
- Legal aspects of respect, consent and sexual violence.
- Being clear that pressure and coercion is never okay.
- Consent and the need to make sure someone wants to do something.
- Considering the impact of community attitudes and what to do if respect is not present.

We hope the day helped build awareness and positive change for the St Lucia campus!
And thanks for chatting with us despite the heat!! ☀️

Today is International Women's Day!

This year at Zig Zag we have been reflecting on the history of International Women's Day (IWD), its origins, developments over time and some recent critiques which have arisen about IWD.

We’ve also been thinking about our hopes for International Women’s Day into the future and for a strong inclusive Intersectional Feminist movement!

The festive season for some means more time at home, financial pressures and heightened emotional distress all of which can escalate abusive behaviours. If you need support help is available please contact the support numbers provided.

Last week we were able to hold our end of year party for the wonderful young people we support 🎉🪩

Because of the beautiful generosity of all the services, businesses and individuals in our community, we were able to hold a Free Shop, which gave opportunity of gift giving to young people and their families. This is a highlight every year, and we simply cannot do it without community, so we want to give a special shoutout to all the people who donated, as well as the community members who came to our door, but we’re unable to name!!!!
Special shoutout to Amy Shambrook, a regular support to Zig Zag, who helped us gather donations for our end of year party.

THANK YOU

A massive thank you to the Department of Transport and Main Roads. This year, under the leadership of Infrastructure and Cloud Management Director Janeen McDonald, their team organised a toiletries collection drive for Zig Zag.
Staff generously donated new, unopened toiletries such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, and sanitary items.
Janeen and Hayley from Technology delivered the donations which were deeply appreciated, particularly in the lead-up to Christmas when many women and children need extra support.

Thank you to the community member who kindly donated items for folks who get periods. We appreciate it so much!

We are still taking donations for our end of year party for young women, young folks and their children.

We are seeking any items that can go in our free shop or big ticket items like balance bikes, iPads, art supplies and movie tickets.

This years 16 days of Activism campaign is currently underway. This years global theme is “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against Women and Girls” focusing on Digital Violence as a form of Gender-Based Violence. This years theme highlights the increasing prevalence of Digital Abuse that can include cyber bullying, online harassment, non- consensual sharing of images and stalking. All voices are important whether big or small. You can get involved by sharing information on social media using the hashtag to raise awareness, attending your local community events or just by starting the conversation.

Today is Transgender day of Remembrance.
A day to reflect on and commemorate all the lives lost to transphobia and discrimination.
Particularly given current events, please take a moment today to remember those we have lost and celebrate the ongoing strength of this community.

You Are Welcome Here.
