Early this evening, our members turned out to assist the SES Cobden Unit at a serious incident.

​ Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and loved ones affected.

​To the bystanders who stopped and helped—thank you for your courage. Please remember that you are not alone either. Witnessing or assisting at a severe incident can take a heavy toll. If you or someone you know is struggling to cope, please reach out to someone you trust or utilize support services.

​ To our fellow emergency services members, keep checking in on each other and reach out to peer support. Look after yourselves and each other. 🧡

A lucky outcome on the farm late this morning.

​ We headed out to assist Ambulance Victoria paramedics after a farmer had a motorbike rollover. They escaped with minor injuries—largely thanks to having a rollover protection bar installed, which stopped the bike from landing on them.

​ Huge thanks to the SES Cobden Unit for bringing their ATV out. We used it to transport the farmer back out to the waiting ambulance, saving our crew a long hike in the process!
​ Eyewatch - Warrnambool Police Service Area were also on scene assisting with the incident.

​ A quick reminder for our local farming community:
WorkSafe stats consistently show vehicle rollovers are a leading cause of farm injuries in Australia. A fitted roll bar or protection device can genuinely be the difference between walking away and a serious hospital visit
​ Please take that extra minute to check your gear and stay safe while working.

For the second time this week, our road rescue crew was called out to a crash right here in town yesterday afternoon.
​After we got the vehicle door open, the occupant was able to get out safely and straight into the care of Ambulance Victoria.

Take care out on the roads everyone. This accident we attended too this afternoon with SES Cobden Unit was easily avoidable.

We were called to a road crash at Chappell Vale soon after midday. Both drivers had self extricated by the time we arrived and were attended to by AV. Many thanks to Camperdown Unit for always having our backs and dispatching to support us on scene 🧡

🚨 JOINT TRAINING NIGHT WITH COBDEN UNIT 🚨

A bit of a schedule change for us this week! Instead of our usual night, our crew headed down to Cobden tonight for a joint training exercise with the Cobden Unit.

Tonight’s scenario focused on stabilizing and rescuing a person trapped under a heavy object. To safely execute the lift, we split into teams to run through heavy lifting and cribbing stabilization techniques. One team put the Porta Power through its paces, while the other worked with the combi tool and foot hydraulic pump to maintain progress and safety throughout the lift. Joint scenarios like this are vital for keeping our technical rescue skills sharp and ensuring seamless teamwork when responding to complex incidents across the district.

We were also pleased to welcome Member for Polwarth Richard Riordan MP and the Western District Newspaper to the unit tonight. It was a great opportunity to demonstrate our operational equipment in action and sit down with Richard to discuss some of the challenges our volunteers face when responding to jobs across the region, along with a few other local operational things.

A big thank you to the SES Cobden Unit crew for hosting a great night, and to Richard for taking the time to visit and speak with our volunteers!
