📢 Heading to the Camperdown Show? Come check out the gear with CFA & VICSES! 🚜🚒

The Camperdown Show is always a highlight on the local calendar, and both our Camperdown Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Camperdown Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) units will be there with all our operational gear on display!
Drop by our joint display to:

🔴 Check out the gear both services bring to the job — explore the rescue equipment, hydraulic tools, pumping gear, communications setups, and light-tower rigs we rely on.

🔴 Get the kids in the driver's seat — let them jump inside the trucks, check out the lockers, and see what emergency response looks like up close!
🔴 Prep for summer — pick up crucial advice on bushfire readiness, home fire safety, storm preparedness, and emergency planning.

🔴 Meet the crew — chat with your local volunteers about how we train, how our equipment works, and what it’s like serving the community.

🔴 Join the team — curious about giving back? We’re always keen to welcome new members into both emergency service families.

Whether you've got questions about your summer fire plan, want a close-up look at the rescue gear, or just want to catch up, drop in and say hello.
See you all at the showgrounds! 👋

END OF THE DROUGHT: CFA Duncs return to the winner’s circle! 🏀🚨

It’s been a long stretch in the wilderness for the Camperdown Fire Brigade basketball team, but the curse has officially been broken!

Seven years ago, Duncs Life Member Jack Mckenzie hung up his sneakers—and until now, that final game of Jack’s was the last time the crew tasted victory in the Wednesday night local competition.
 Enter fresh talent Noah Sinnott.

With Noah injecting some new energy into the lineup, the Duncs put on a masterclass, dug in deep, and finally bagged that elusive win!

A special shoutout must go to Man of the Match Gary O'Neil , who delivered a legendary performance running the waters on the sideline for the full four quarters. 💧🏃‍♂️

Huge effort from the whole team for sticking with it, and a massive welcome to Noah for bringing the magic touch. Jack can finally relax knowing the team is back on the board!

Drop a comment below to congratulate the boys on breaking the drought! 👇🏆

Thieves have broken into the Chocolyn fire station, stealing a number of items.

The break-in happened overnight, with a vehicle used to break open the roller door.

Thieves then stole station radios, uniforms, chainsaws, battery chargers and other tools.

Items stolen, damage done at CFA break-in.

Reducing the fuel load around your home/property is a great way to prepare for the upcoming fire season. Take advantage of free green waste disposal while you can!

Free green waste disposal 12-25 October!

It’s time to tidy up around the yard before the Fire Danger Period begins.

To help residents prepare, Corangamite Shire Council is offering free green waste disposal at local transfer stations and Naroghid Landfill from Monday 12 October until Sunday 25 October.

You can dispose of leaves, branches, long grass and other organic materials.

This is available to Corangamite Shire residential households only – no commercial loads.

In addition to this, we’re offering weekly green organics bin collections from now until Friday 1 January.

This initiative helps reduce potential fire fuel around homes and supports a safer community.

To find your nearest location and its opening hours, download the Corangamite Binfo app or visit www.corangamite.vic.gov.au/transferstations

Around 10:00 PM last night, the Camperdown Pumper was turned out to assist the Terang Fire Brigade with an incident at the Ridley feed mill in Terang.

Our crew provided breathing apparatus (BA) wearers to support operations on scene alongside local units. After the incident was declared safe, our volunteer members returned home around 4:30 AM for a quick nap before heading straight off to their day jobs! 😴💼

Great teamwork across brigades to get the job done safely.

As Victorian residents begin making the most of the warmer conditions to prepare their property for the fire season, emergency services are encouraging landowners to register their burn-offs online.

The quickest and easiest way to register your burn-off is by using the Fire Permits Victoria website at www.firepermits.vic.gov.au/notify.

While spring is an opportune time for landowners and residents to take advantage of the favourable weather to undertake burning off activities, more than 62 per cent of burn-off registrations in Victoria are still coming through via phone.

This can lead to longer wait times for residents seeking to notify their burn-offs, as Triple Zero Victoria call takers focus on higher priority calls.

Triple Zero Victoria’s Chief Operations Officer, Paul Santamaria, encourages the community to take the very simple step of planning ahead and registering their burn-off online during Spring.

“We are still seeing high notification by phone in some areas including Lara, Olinda, Healesville, Mt Evelyn, Monbulk, Langwarrin, Yackandandah and Wonga Park and we encourage these communities to register online,” Paul said.

“When everyone does their bit and registers a burn-off online it reduces unnecessary calls and helps our Triple Zero Emergency call takers to remain available to focus on emergencies and high priority calls.

“If you are planning to burn-off more than two hours from now, registering online will always be the fastest and simplest option.”

If for any reason you need to start your burn-off immediately (within two hours), you can still register by calling 1800 668 511.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan AFSM said to avoid unnecessary callouts for emergency services this spring, residents are urged to register their burn-off activities on the Fire Permits Victoria website.

“By registering your burn-off online, it allows CFA, emergency services and the public to understand that the fire is not an emergency,” Jason said.

“Receiving notification allows us to manage the fire risk effectively and avoid placing unnecessary strain on local brigades and Triple Zero (000) call takers.

“So far this year CFA crews have responded to more than 200 escaped burn-offs - so we ask landowners to have enough people and water on hand to monitor, contain and extinguish their burn-off safely at all times and only burn off when conditions are favourable.”

The website allows you to notify emergency services of your burn-off, and also check and apply for a permit, if necessary.

For more information about burning off safely, visit www.cfa.vic.gov.au/burnoff.

Before burning off, make sure you:

▫️Check and Follow regulations or laws by your local council.
▫️Notify your neighbours if the burn will generate fire and smoke.
▫️Check the weather forecast for the day of the activity and a few days afterward.
▫️Postpone your activity if high fire risk conditions develop.
▫️Establish a gap in vegetation or fire break of no less than three metres cleared of all flammable material.
▫️Have enough people to monitor, contain and extinguish the burn safely and effectively. Never leave a burn-off unattended.
