Treasury is the Australian Government's lead economic adviser

As a central policy advising agency, the Treasury provides high-level advice to the Commonwealth Government on a broad range of economic, public and tax policy issues, aimed at improving the wellbeing of the Australian people. Treasury’s work is centred on four portfolio outcomes – a sound macroeconomic environment, effective government spending arrangements, effective taxation and retirement income arrangements, and well-functioning markets.
