Light Up Lyneham!
The lovely Iona, and not so lovely Tom, are proud to be representing us at the annual Light Up Lyneham event this Saturday, from 3pm til 8pm, serving our winter staple Mulled Wine, as well as your favourites from our Friends at Capital Brewing!
Light up Lyneham is an enchanting community event that illuminates Lyneham Shops and Wetlands with a dazzling display of lights, colour, and joy. Residents and visitors gather to witness the transformation of the Lyneham Wetlands into a magical wonderland. Vibrant installations, shimmering lanterns, and captivating projections adorn the route of the Lantern Walk, creating a sense of wonder and unity. The event showcases the artistic talents of local residents and celebrates the spirit of togetherness. From illuminated sculptures to interactive light shows, Light up Lyneham offers a memorable experience for all ages, bringing warmth and cheer to the heart of the community.
See y'all down there, good folks!

1 in 4 Australians is lonely. Quality green spaces in our cities offer a solution When the pandemic hit, green space was there for us at a time when others weren’t or couldn’t be. Urban greening might be the solution to the ‘lonelygenic environment’ that our cities have created.

We had a very satisfying working bee at the Commons today. The fruit trees have grown so well this year and today we harvested plums, apples and blackberries. There are also pears and pomegranates growing. The mown swales look great (see the before and after shots). In the next couple of weeks we'll mow again, put cardboard and then mulch down. There is lots of lucerne and grass growing in the berms, making a valuable resource that we cut and used as mulch around fruit trees. They also leave less space for the dreaded couch grass to grow. The acacias have grown a lot and they were pruned and will be used for mulch since they are nitrogen fixing. The branches can also be used to reconstruct our cross berm path borders. The cardoons and artichokes had reached their end so were cut down and the stems cut into short lengths to be used as bee hotels throughout the Commons. So many good things to see and do at the Commons.

As part of the working bee on Sunday we will be tidying up the swales that are very overgrown.
Please get in touch if you have a lawnmower we could borrow for the day.
Thanks in anticipation.
