Did you watch the Budget speech? 🎤

At 7.30pm last night in the House of Representatives, The Hon Dr Jim Chalmers MP delivered the Budget speech.

Did you know? Both the Treasurer and the Leader of the Opposition do not have a time limit to speak on the Budget, but in practice take about 30 minutes.

The Treasurer’s Budget speech follows the introduction of Appropriation Bill (No. 1) 2026–2027, which was the first of five bills introduced on Budget night. The Budget speech is an important way the government explains to Australians their plans and priorities for the nation’s future.

The Budget reply speech will be given by the Leader of the Opposition, Hon Angus Taylor MP, on Thursday 14 May at 7.30pm in the House of Representatives. This gives the opposition an opportunity to critique the budget and lay out their alternative plans.
