Twenty-five years after Australia commenced operations in Afghanistan, we pause to honour all who served.

More than 35,000 Australians answered the call to serve. We remember the 47 Australians who lost their lives as a result of their service, acknowledge those who were wounded, and recognise the enduring contribution of veterans and families.

Their professionalism, courage and sacrifice remain an enduring part of our nation's story.

Operation Solania ✈️

Royal Australian Air Force specialist aviators deployed under the Defence Pacific Air Program recently supported regional maritime security efforts in 📍 Fiji under Operation Solania.

Operating alongside the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, the Australian detachment conducted aerial surveillance activities designed to strengthen maritime domain awareness and support Pacific-led efforts to monitor and protect fishery resources across the region.

The deployment forms part of Australia’s broader commitment to supporting a secure, stable and prosperous Pacific through practical cooperation, capacity-building and enduring partnerships.

Teamwork from ship to shore.

Royal Australian Navy and Australian Army personnel from the Australian Amphibious Force are training for shore landings while travelling aboard HMAS Choules L100 to Indonesia for Exercise Keris Woomera 26.

It’s a complex operation, with hundreds of infantry in body armour to transfer in landing craft along with combat vehicles and weapons.

Australian Navy Cadets from across the country came together for the 2026 Australian Navy Cadets National Camp at HMAS Cerberus, gaining firsthand insight into life in the Royal Australian Navy.

From high-speed Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHIB) rides and live firings at West Head Gunnery Range to world-class training at Survival at Sea, School of Survivability and Ship Safety and Seamanship School, cadets embraced every opportunity.

The week forged new friendship, built confidence and skills, and inspired the next generation of maritime leaders. 🌊

🇦🇺 ✈️ 🇻🇳

6️⃣2️⃣ Vietnamese peacekeepers have begun a year-long deployment on the United Nations (UN) Mission in South Sudan, supported by Australia’s eighth strategic airlift.

The Vietnam People’s Army personnel departed Vietnam in late September aboard a Royal Australian Air Force C-17A Globemaster III with about 22 tonnes of equipment and medical supplies for the Level 2 Field Hospital Rotation 8 in Bentiu.

Over the coming 12 months, the medical contingent will deliver healthcare to UN personnel while supporting local communities and medical services.
