The Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF) was established by the Australian Government in 1976

The Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF) is Australia's oldest cultural council supporting people-to-people links underpinning this key bilateral and regional relationship. Established by the Australian Government in 1976, the AJF aims to:

「ミールズ・オン・ホイールズ」は、オーストラリアで広く知られる高齢者向けの配食サービスです。実は日本とオーストラリアの団体は、40年にわたり交流を続けてきました。
その始まりは、オーストラリア大使館職員のご家族が来日したことがきっかけだったそうです。
今回は、ミールズ・オン・ホイールズ日本協会(MOWJ)を運営する一般社団法人全国食支援活動協力会の専務理事・平野覚治さんと、ミールズ・オン・ホイールズ南オーストラリア協会(MOWSA)CEOのシャリン・ブロアさんに、日豪それぞれにおける高齢者向け配食サービスの現状と課題、そしてこれからの地域コミュニティのあり方についてお話を伺いました。

Meals on Wheels is a widely recognised meal delivery service in Australia but it is also established here in Japan. These organisations have maintained exchanges for over 40 years.
The first exchange began through the visit to Japan of an Australian Embassy staff family member in the 1980s.

In this feature, we speak with Mr Kakuji Hirano of Meals on Wheels Japan (MOWJ), and Ms Sharyn Broer, CEO of Meals on Wheels South Australia (MOWSA), about the current challenges and opportunities facing meal delivery services in both countries, as well as the future of community support.

本展では、外交・経済・文化・人的交流といった幅広い分野における協力の広がりと深化を、写真やエピソードとともに紹介し、今日一層重要性を深める日豪関係を振り返ります。

The exhibition “Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation and the Establishment of the Australia-Japan Foundation” will open from 17 June at the Diplomatic Archives of Japan as a special joint exhibition by the Australian Embassy and the Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
Through photographs and stories, the exhibition highlights the depth and breadth of cooperation across diplomacy, trade, culture, and people-to-people exchange, reflecting on the enduring importance of the Australia–Japan partnership today.

There is one week until the AJF Grant Round application period closes.
If you have a project that will showcase Australian excellence in Japan, or an - exchange project that will commence from October 2026 - June 2027, consider applying to the AJF grant round!
AJF accepts applications from both Australian and Japanese organisations and individuals.

Yasukichi Murakami: Through a Distant Lens by Mayu Kanamori, translated by Professor Keiji Sawada, will be published by Oceania Publications with support from the Australia-Japan Foundation
To celebrate this publication, a play reading and a symposium with the author will be held at Waseda University on 6 June.

The Australia-Japan Foundation will be holding an online information session regarding the 2026-27 Grant Round. It will take place on Friday, May 15. 11:00am-12:00pm (AEST) / 10:00am-11:00am (JST).

AJF Board Chair, Ms Natsuko Ogawa will be speaking, and there will be a Q&A component to the webinar.

This will be a chance to get all the information you need and ask questions about the current round.
