On Thursday 21 May, UCHSK had a Year 9/10 group of girls represent the school in the U16 ACT Katrina Fanning Shield. The girls played some tough football throughout the day, but what shone through most was their positivity and teamwork. After going undefeated throughout the day, and only conceding two tries, they were crowned ACT Katrina Fanning Shield champions. Standouts were Harper W and Mia A, with Tyler D receiving the award for player of the day in the U16 competition.
The girls have qualified for the next stage of the Katrina Fanning Shield in Wagga at the beginning of August. Well done girls- you’ve done the UCHSK community proud!

📢 All ACT public schools CLOSED Friday 22 May 2026, 8.30am – 10.30am 📢
In order to enable industrial action and keep students safe all ACT public schools, including specialist schools and preschools, will be CLOSED from 8.30am to 10.30am on Friday 22 May 2026.
The Australian Education Union has notified the Education Directorate that its members will take part in protected industrial action, including a two-hour work stoppage next Friday 22 May 2026.
What this means for students and families:
The Education Directorate has decided to close schools to students during this time, in the interest of student and staff safety.
We expect a majority of ACT public school staff will participate in the work stoppage, meaning we are unable to confidently plan for safe and appropriate supervision for all students.
There will be no onsite supervision available for students during this time. The school day will begin at 10.30am.
Your school will let you know early next week if there are any changes to timetabling or start of day activities.
We acknowledge that school closures have significant impacts on families and these decisions are not taken lightly. We are letting families know about this change as early as possible to help with forward planning. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

On Tuesday 28 April, the Year 9/10 girls touch football team (AKA Mud Crabs) represented
UC High School Kaleen at the ACT Touch Football Finals. They qualified for the ACT Finals after winning the Northside Touch Football Gala Day in Term 1.
The girls played well enough to make the semi-finals, where they played their best game to beat the #1 ranked Daramalan College team to make their way to the grand final. Unfortunately, they lost a close battle 2-1 against St Mary MacKillop. The girls should be proud of their efforts.

UCHSK’s own Antonia C has recently been selected for the ACT Emerging Matildas squad. Antonia took part in the national tournament in Melbourne during the April school holidays. Antonia has worked hard over the past 6 months to earn a place in the squad- her peers, family and school community couldn’t be more proud. Congratulations Antonia.

Yesterday, we came together as a school community to honour ANZAC Day and reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who have served our country.
Our ANZAC Day assembly was a terrific occasion, marked by respect, thoughtful reflection, and a strong sense of gratitude.
Students and staff engaged meaningfully in the ceremony, demonstrating maturity and pride as we remembered the ANZAC spirit and what it represents for Australia.
Thank you to everyone involved in organising and contributing to such a memorable and respectful event.
Lest we forget.
