Dear Parents and Carers,
We are excited to launch our Mawson Primary School Colour Run, raising funds for our basketball court upgrade.

How Do We Fundraise?
It’s super easy! Simply go to myprofilepage.com.au, click register and create a cybersafe online profile for your child. Once you’re set up, share the link with family and friends to collect online donations. Please note: this is an online-only fundraiser.
Raise just $10 online and receive a prize for your awesome fundraising efforts! When the fundraiser finishes, students will need to login and order prizes based on their donations. Students can mix and match up to a total of five prizes based on their donations or choose to give back to one of the six amazing causes - The Great Barrier Reef Foundation (coral planting or turtle protection), Carbon Neutral (tree planting), OzHarvest (providing meals to those in need), The Starlight Foundation (bring happiness to sick kids) or Dolly’s Dream (end bullying in schools).

Year 1 students explored different graphemes representing the same phoneme, such as /er/ represented by ir, er and ur. They explored word families by adding prefixes and suffixes such as un-, re-, -er, -est and -less. They also had the opportunity to complete book reviews based on quality literature texts such as Owl Babies and How the Birds Got Their Colours.

In Writing, students learned about procedural texts, exploring how to write the structure and instructions for completing tasks such as making a paper owl and washing their hands.

REMINDER: Minimal supervision arrangements for ACT public schools and preschools,
9am-11am, Thursday 17 September
A reminder that all ACT public schools will be operating under minimal supervision arrangements from 9am to 11am on Thursday 17 September 2026.
Families may wish to keep their children at home during that time. Schools are not closed and supervision will be available for those that require it.
Schools will resume regular operations at 11am.
This is to support Australian Education Union members to attend a paid time meeting to consider the ACT Government’s pay and conditions offer.
Absence notifications: for families that keep their child home – you will still receive an absence notification from your school for the 2-hour period. You only need to respond to the notification if it is incorrect.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

In Maths, 6B has been learning to divide decimals by whole and decimals numbers using a Concrete/Representational/Abstract (CRA) approach. Students used MAB materials and number lines before connecting their understanding to the abstract strategy. Even students who could confidently solve the problems abstractly still had to show a representation to prove and explain their thinking.

In our wellbeing learning, we explored this year’s Bullying No Way theme: “Small actions can have a big impact on someone’s life.” Students created a ripple-effect diagram to show how something as simple as noticing someone sitting alone, asking “Are you okay?” and inviting them to join in can lead to someone feeling noticed, included and more confident.

It was wonderful to see 6B making connections, explaining their thinking and recognising that whether we are solving a tricky maths problem or supporting someone in our community, small steps can lead to big results!
