Tonight, the Mint will illuminate purple for Migraine Awareness Month.

Migraine is a complex neurological condition that affects millions of people around the world. More than just a headache, migraine can cause symptoms including severe pain, nausea, fatigue, and sensitivity to light, sound, and movement, often impacting daily life, work, and relationships.

By illuminating the building, we raise awareness of the challenges faced by those living with migraine and recognise the important support provided by families, carers, and healthcare professionals.

Tonight, the Mint will glow red for World Sickle Cell Day.

Sickle cell disease is a group of inherited blood disorders that affect haemoglobin, causing red blood cells to become misshapen and break down more quickly than normal. For those living with sickle cell disease, symptoms can be unpredictable and may include episodes of severe pain, fatigue and other serious health complications.

By illuminating the building, we recognise the strength and resilience of people living with sickle cell disease and acknowledge the vital support provided by families, carers and healthcare professionals.

Doug recently had the opportunity to catch up with Boyan, who plays a key role in the coin rolling and packing process at the Mint.

From freshly struck coins to the rolls that end up in the hands of collectors across Australia, this was a fascinating look at a part of the process most people never get to see.

Watch the video to hear Boyan share his insights and get a glimpse behind the curtain of Australian coin production.

What looks like empty space in the night sky tells one of Australia’s oldest stories and features on one of our coins.

Stretching across the night sky, the Gurgumin constellation acknowledges the dark spaces in between the stars, showing an emu. As the seasons change the emu will appear to be sitting or running. This acts like a calendar reminding Aboriginal people that it is either time to hunt emus or collet eggs.
