Calwell Primary School Calwell Primary School is located in the Tuggeranong Valley in Canberra’s south. Welcome to the official page of Calwell Primary School.

The school was opened in 1989 and is designed to accommodate up to 460 students. The school is located on a hillside setting with views to the Brindabella Mountains. We encourage contributions to the page. Please note the content is moderated. The page aims to highlight the achievements of our school, our teachers and students. Hi all, this is a message for families of our Year 6 students. ​

On Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 3, the team from SHFPACT will be attending Calwell Primary School to deliver workshops for our Year 6 students, covering Physical Changes and Consent and Respectful Relationships. The information being presented and activities that students will engage with align with the Australian Curriculum guidelines for Health and Physical Education for Year 6. Further information about SHFPACT's role is outlined below.

SHFPACT continues to actively engage with primary and secondary schools to build the capacity of school communities to provide accurate, comprehensive, age and developmentally appropriate relationships and sexual health education. The roles of parents/carers and teachers in the lives of children and young people are central in this endeavour, and our services are provided to support and enhance these roles, not to replace them. SHFPACT prioritises the delivery of programs in schools to those where an existing program is in place and the use of external facilitators or guest speakers has been well considered. Our delivery of programs directly to students supports our workforce development activities with current, credible and experienced educators providing skills development and content knowledge training to other educators across our education systems. In the wider community, SHFPACT participates in relevant health promotion and student support and orientation events, both promoting the availability of services at SHFPACT and distributing sexual and reproductive health information. We as a school community understand that this may be a sensitive topic to some students and their families. The SHFPACT team will be joining us on Monday the 19th of October to deliver a parent information session. The session will run from 5:30-7pm here at Calwell Primary, and all parents and carers are encouraged to attend.

Next Friday Calwell will be impacted by industrial action from 830 to 930am. Students should not arrive at school before 9:30 next Friday.

Due to Australian Education Union protected industrial action, from Monday 19 to Friday 23 October, there will be 1-hour work stoppages between 8:30 am to 9:30 am. Different ACT public schools will be affected on different days.

The Australian Education Union has notified the Education Directorate that its members will take part in further protected industrial action. The next planned action is a 2-hour work stoppage next Thursday 24 September.

All ACT public schools, including specialist schools and preschools, will be CLOSED to students between 8:30am and 10:30am on Thursday 24 September 2026. The school day will commence at 10:30am.

The Education Directorate has decided to close schools to students during this time, in the interest of student and staff safety. There will be no onsite supervision during this time.

We acknowledge that school closures have significant impacts on families and these decisions are not taken lightly.

We are letting families know about this change as early as possible to help with forward planning. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

📣 Attention ACT public school students and families

All ACT Public Schools will be closed from 8:30am to 10:30am on Thursday 24 September 2026 due to planned protected industrial action.

Please note there will be no onsite supervision available for students during this time. The school day will commence at 10:30am.

When planning your travel, please be aware:

🚌 Dedicated school services will operate as normal on Thursday 24 September 2026
• Morning dedicated school services will run as scheduled.
• Supported School Transport services for specialist schools and eligible students will not operate.
• Afternoon dedicated school and Supported School Transport services will continue to run as normal.

Families are encouraged to consider using the regular bus network to arrive closer to the revised school start time.
