Young Labor Centre Action

At last night’s caucus drinks, I officially announced that I am stepping down as Co-Convenor of Young Labor Centre Action, effective immediately, to help lead our Senior AWU group.

It has been an incredible privilege to lead such a passionate group of young activists in the Labor Party, and to do so alongside so many outstanding comrades. I want to sincerely thank Xavier Hutchins for Co-Convening with me, and for continuing to lead the group to what I am certain will be even greater achievements.

I first joined the Labor movement at 16, attending a Young Labor Action trivia night, and very quickly found my home in the Party. At the time I became more involved, it’s fair to say YLA had seen better days. Our group was small and hadn’t held an event in months, but that didn’t deter us. Tom Hammond, who many of you know well, immediately became my greatest mentor. He took me under his wing, and before long we had built a powerhouse of hardworking, disciplined comrades, all committed to strengthening the Party one day at a time. No task was too big for our Executive or our caucus.

These are the moments I still reflect on with immense gratitude and happiness. It really is true that Young Labor is where lifelong friendships are formed and lessons are learned that stay with you forever.

Young Labor Action will always hold a special place in my heart, and I thank all our caucus members who have stood by us, and each other, over the years.

The merger with Young Labor Centre Unity to form Young Labor Centre Action was a powerful opportunity for connection and growth. Connor Dubout and I led YLCA at that time and tackled our first VYL together with great success. That moment marked the beginning of what has proven to be one of the best decisions our groups have ever made. We are one family now - an AWU family.

As I reflect on my four years in Young Labor, and two years as Convenor, I want to particularly thank Tom Hammond, Natalia Genovese, Ben Pakula, Bridget Chapman, and Indah Johannes, just a few of the many close friends and respected comrades I could always rely on.

Thank you all for your enduring support. It has truly been one of the greatest privileges of my life to grow alongside you and to help lead our group.

This NAIDOC Week, we’re reflecting on the theme “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy”, and what it means to support and uplift Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities with honesty, respect, and purpose.

YLCA honours the enduring strength of Elders, the leadership of young First Nations people, and the deep legacy that continues to shape this land and its future.

NAIDOC Week is more than a celebration; it’s a moment to listen, learn, and take meaningful, sustained action in solidarity with First Nations voices and movements.

We’re proud to walk alongside and continue working for a future grounded in truth, justice, and self-determination. 🖤❤️💛✊

This Wednesday, Young Labor Centre Unity partnered with Swinburne University ALP - Labor Club and La Trobe University ALP - Labor Club to bring students inside Parliament House for a unique, hands-on experience. 🏛️

Massive thanks to Colin Brooks MP, Natalie Hutchins MP and Shaun Leane MP for taking time to speak with us about what it’s really like to serve in government, and for answering the tough questions with honesty and insight.

We look forward to seeing our amazing MPs again soon! 🙌

Today, on National Sorry Day, we pause to remember the Stolen Generations, the children taken, the families broken, and the deep intergenerational pain that endures.

We honour their resilience and acknowledge the continuing injustices faced by First Nations people.

YLCA stands in solidarity. We commit to listening, learning, and working to ensure our communities, services, and workplaces are culturally safe and inclusive.

A huge thank you to all our comrades in the party; this victory would not have been possible without the solidarity and unwavering support of our Labor family.

This week, Young Labor Centre Action had the exclusive opportunity to travel to Canberra for the 2025 Albanese Budget. Students from across Victoria engaged directly with veteran Ministers and newly elected MPs, asking questions about life in Parliament, trade policy, specialist school education, and so much more.

With the election season officially kicking off on May 3 🗳️, we’re ready to hit the ground running. Our focus is on engaging with local communities 🤝, listening to constituents 🗣️, and advocating for the key policies of the 2025 budget 📜.

Last Sunday, YLCA proudly marched alongside our LGBTQIA+ comrades, celebrating a festival that brings together Victorians from all corners of the state and Aussies from across the nation. Midsumma is more than a celebration, it’s a statement of inclusion, progress, and solidarity.

As YLCA members, progressivism is at our core, that’s why we march. In the face of rising far-right rhetoric, we stand firm: 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮. By showing up, speaking out, and standing together, we push back against hate and build a future that’s equal for all.

Next year, our contingent will be bigger and louder than ever, we can’t wait to march again! 💙🧡💙

This week, we hit the ground running in Wills, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with local voters and championing the values we all believe in. From doorknocking with Peter Khalil to spreading the word about our vision for a stronger Labor future, we’re making every conversation count. 💪

As we gear up for the federal election, let’s send a clear message to Dutton: Melbourne is a Labor city, and we’re here to keep it that way! 💙🧡💙

Young Labor Centre Action is backing the Australian Workers' Union - Victorian Branch firefighters and acknowledges the dangerous work that they do to protect the lives and livelihoods of Victorians and our environment.🚒🌳

Every wildfire season, these heroes are out there keeping communities safe, this year is no exception. As unionists and as Victorians YLCA stands shoulder to shoulder with our firies as they fight for a fair EBA. Let’s back our firies! ✊
