Think twice before lighting fires with current conditions
π₯βΉοΈ Tasmania Fire Service is asking all Tasmanians to be extra cautious over the coming days, with High Fire Danger forecast for Sunday (20 September) across much of the state including:
π King Island
π Furneaux Islands
π North East
π East Coast
π Midlands
π Upper Derwent Valley
π South East, and
π Western districts.
β οΈ Strong winds and dry conditions mean fires can start easily and spread quickly.
While the Fire Permit Period has not yet commenced and there are currently no restrictions in place, we're asking everyone to take a few simple precautions:
β
Check any campfires, burn-offs or fire pits lit in recent days or weeks and make sure they are fully extinguished. Remember: soak it, stir it, soak it again.
β
Review your bushfire survival plan and make sure you know what you'll do if a fire starts.
β
Stay informed through the TasALERT app, TasALERT.com, or ABC Local Radio.
β
If you see smoke, flames, or a fire that appears to have reignited, don't assume someone else has reported it. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
π€ We're working hard to keep the community safe, but everyone has a role to play in reducing fire risk. Please take extra caution in the use of fire over the coming days.
