IMPORTANT POST - PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY TO THE END...

The old saying 'Cash is King' is back in the spotlight today.... and for good reason, because we'd be lost without it.
We at the Post Office had our 5 minutes of fame after Kelpie Weekend when the ATM went down, but after looking at my figures from last year, we are unfortunately doing less banking transactions (Deposits and withdrawals) than 12 months ago. I Know in the winter months business can be slower but am hopeful things will pick up as the weather warms up.
I'm sure I'm not the only Local Business who needs the support...
Kirby is just about to finish school and I'd love her to come onboard the Post Office team, but as we've been a bit quiet lately, I'm really thinking I should be cutting hours, not increasing them, which is a very hard thing to admit...
All I can say is, if you are hesitant to use us for your banking deposits and withdrawals, please know that apart from Commonwealth Bank Passbooks, we CANNOT see your balances or transactions on our screens when we serve you, you will NOT be a bother for us to serve you, we would love and need you to come in to us to say 'Hello' and use us for your banking, parcels, bill paying, buying foreign cash, phone recharge, flowers etc, etc... to help me employ our lovely local staff, keep us viable and our doors open long into the future....

The day after the Today Show interview, I was asked to do an over the phone interview with Phoebe Loomes from The Senior Newspaper.

Cash is King.... hopefully the message is getting out there... I can't imagine a life without cash...

When 10,000 dog lovers descended on the small Victorian town of Casterton for the Annual Australian Kelpie Muster, disaster struck.

The town’s only ATM ran completely dry.

With dozens of market stalls, food trucks, and local eateries only accepting cash, the massive event was on the brink of a total flop.

Enter local florist and post office operator, Melita Vise.

After a good Samaritan put a sign on the broken ATM directing people to her shop, Melita threw open her doors and stayed open until 7pm on a Saturday to make sure visitors had cash for dinner and local businesses didn't miss out.

"A lot of them didn't have any idea that you could get cash out of the post office," she said.

As banking becomes increasingly digitised, the incident has highlighted the fierce national campaign to keep cash widely available. While new regulations require some larger supermarkets and petrol stations to accept cash under $500, small business carve-outs have left many seniors disappointed and confused.

Have you ever been caught stranded without cash at an event? Are you worried about local bank branches and ATMs disappearing from our country towns?
