He also took time to highlight some of the future projects the brigade wishes to complete, as well as mentioning further projects for inside the station.

He thanked all the current members for all they do, highlighting that Churchill CFA had responded to 189 call-outs, thanking all members for their hard work over the preceding 12 months and their partners and families for supporting them.

Thinking about burning off? STOP AND CHECK FIRST.

As the weather starts to warm up and those hot, dry and windy days become more common, the risk of grass and bushfires increases — and this is also the time of year when we start seeing more burn-offs escape.

Before lighting anything:

✅ Check the current Fire Danger Period and local council restrictions. - https://www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/Community/Emergencies/Fire_Ready/Be_prepared_create_a_firebreak

✅ Check the weather for the day of the burn and the days afterwards.
✅ Don't burn off when it's windy or when conditions are becoming hot and dry.
✅ Have a minimum 3-metre break around your burn, clear of anything that can burn.
✅ Make sure you have enough water, equipment and people to control the fire.
✅ Never leave a burn-off unattended.
✅ Let your neighbours know if smoke may affect them.
✅ Register your burn-off so emergency services know it is legitimate. - https://firepermits.vic.gov.au/notify
✅ If the fire starts getting away from you — call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

And remember: just because you've lit it doesn't mean you've finished with it. Burn-offs can flare up again hours or even days later when the wind picks up; keep checking !!!

Conditions can change quickly, and fires can get out of control within minutes in hot and windy conditions, even in spring

---------------------------------------------------------------------

We'd much rather see you spend a few extra minutes checking the conditions than have to spend several hours chasing a fire that escaped a burn pile.

Spring is a great time to get your property prepared — just don't let your clean-up become our next job. 😉

Shout out to these 2 awesome people who we call our own, Derek and Maddie who completed the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb today.

It's an incredible feat for our members and we as a brigade are extreamly proud of them and what they achieved.

Climbing 28 flights of stairs in full kit is no mean feat, their months of training has paid off.

Maddie completed her Climb in 19mins and 39 seconds
Derek completed his climb in 10mins and 19 seconds .

Shop Local - Churchill

We would like to thank our community for their ongoing support of our community education program.

Every Shop Local that is held in Churchill is a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with you, our community and share important information about fire safety and also grab a free snag...

At this Shop Local event we were joined by Tracie Lund - Labor for Morwell and Martin Cameron MP for Morwell, who took time to chat with our community education team and talk about our newest role, the Fire Medical Response, which provides early emergency medical interventions for our community, supporting Ambulance Victoria.

We look forward to seeing you all at the next Shop Local Churchill and our Fire Station Open Day later in the year

🚒 HOUSE FIRE – CHURINGA DRIVE, CHURCHILL 🔥

On Friday afternoon, firefighters were called to a house fire in the Glendonald Estate on Churinga Drive, Churchill.

At the time, several appliances from our neighbouring brigades were already responding into Churchill for an Automatic Fire Alarm. Fortunately, once that incident was confirmed as a false alarm, some of those appliances were able to be immediately diverted to the house fire.

It was a great example of how our emergency services work together — when one community needs help, our neighbouring crews are never far away.

A huge thank you to Fire Rescue Victoria Stations 77 (Traralgon) and 78 (Morwell), CFA Hazelwood North Fire Brigade, and, of course, our own Churchill Fire Brigade members who responded and worked together at the incident.

Having multiple crews and appliances available so quickly makes a significant difference at a structure fire, helping us protect lives, property and our community, and to keep the fire very small.

A big thank you to all crews for the teamwork, professionalism and support.

Introducing AusAlert

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices. It’s a fast and reliable way to help people be informed and better prepared during local and national emergencies.

Who is AusAlert for?
AusAlert is for everyone in Australia. It sends information about local and national disasters, including what is happening now or what might happen soon.

During a disaster, you may receive an alert if you have a compatible mobile phone, tablet or smart watch.

People who may need more support
AusAlert is designed for all Australians.

If you need more support around AusAlert, specific resources have been made for:

people living with disability
older Australians
young people
First Nations peoples
people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Testing and launch
AusAlert will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, the system needs to be tested in local communities across Australia and nationally.

AusAlert will be tested in selected community locations in June 2026.

An AusAlert national test will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in Australia on Monday 27 July 2026.
