💡 CLASS SPOTLIGHT: MATHS IN COOKING

Cooking provides students with meaningful, hands-on opportunities to develop mathematical skills, including counting, measuring, weighing, sequencing and understanding time.

Students in the Star Room participate in life skills tasks weekly which is supporting independence, communication, problem-solving, fine motor skills and confidence. Through practical activities, visual supports and repetition, students apply classroom learning to real-life situations while developing essential life skills such as food preparation, hygiene, safety and decision-making.

Cooking makes learning engaging, purposeful and accessible, helping students build the skills needed for greater independence at home and in the community.

Year 6 Adventure Camp Glenhaven Park

Clare Primary joined with students from Auburn, Watervale, Manoora, Blyth, Snowtown, Koolunga and Spalding for what was an amazing 3 days!
Bravery, resilience and inclusiveness were the 3 values that the group chose and boy did they smash them out of the park!
To say we were blown away by this group is an understatement.
Thank you to the incredible staff at Glenhaven and to all of the adults that went above and beyond to make this a camp to remember.... Bec, Daniel, Aimee, Kel, Kirsty GJ, Kirsty L, Mary and Skye 🙌 Thanks also to Kev Rimmer and Mandy Knight from Clare High for their contributions and visits!

Everyone is going to sleep well tonight! Happy holidays!

🌈 MID YEAR MONDAY: Fine Motor Skills
Our Mid-Year Receptions have been busy strengthening their fine motor skills as part of our morning literacy block! Each morning, our children have opportunities to explore engaging, hands-on activities designed to strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers.

From playdough, threading and peg activities to cutting, tracing, drawing and using whiteboard markers, there is lots of important learning happening through play and exploration. These experiences help the children develop the strength, coordination and control they need for important early literacy skills such as holding a pencil, forming letters, writing their names and becoming increasingly confident and independent writers.

Fine motor activities also encourage concentration, persistence, hand-eye coordination and using both hands together — all important skills for our youngest learners.

🌿 BOWMAN'S PARK EXCURSION!
Last Thursday, our Deck classes — 6A, 6B & 7C — headed off on an excursion to Bowman’s Park.

There were SO many highlights — the bus trip, the giant ant, the old house maze, the slide — but when we asked what their favourite part was, the overwhelming response was “EVERYTHING!”

The park was buzzing, with another school enjoying orienteering and the local kindy celebrating their 100th Bush Kindy visit to Bowman’s Park too!

A fantastic day filled with exploring, playing, laughing and making memories. What a special day!

💡CLASS SPOTLIGHT: From Pages to Projects: 13A’s Iron Man Learning Adventure!

Mr Higgins’ Year 3/4 Class 13A has been exploring The Iron Man through rich learning in English and Mathematics, turning ideas from the novel into creative and purposeful tasks.

Our learning intention was to build strong information report writing skills while developing mathematical understanding of area, perimeter, tessellations and different viewpoints.

Students used their creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to research topics, invent characters, compare ideas, design their own Iron Man models, and create striking tessellation artworks.

Families can continue the conversation at home by asking: what was a highlight of your learning this week, and what new skill are you most proud of?

🌈 MID YEAR MONDAY: Morning Literacy Routine

Each morning in Mid-Year Reception, our students begin their day with a consistent literacy routine designed to build strong foundations for reading and writing.

We begin with name writing, developing letter formation, pencil control and confidence.

We then move into LGU Tier 1 instruction, explicitly learning and practising our focus graphemes and phonemes.

Next, students complete a consolidation task, giving them an opportunity to practise and strengthen their new learning.

Finally, we move into grammar and writing. Today, students used Senantic Story Mats to build vocabulary, develop oral language and learn how to construct increasingly detailed sentences.

It’s wonderful to see how much confidence, independence and literacy knowledge the children are building through this routine each morning!

💡CLASS SPOTLIGHT: Auslan
How do you travel to school?
Term 3 has had the theme of transportation. Younger students have learned the signs for various forms of transportation — ship, car, bus, walk and train — and are working on asking “How do you travel to school?” (English version) and the order of the Auslan version of the signs: “YOU TRAVEL-TO SCHOOL HOW?”, as well as answering the question.
Older students have worked on how they travelled (or didn’t) in the holidays or at camp, and then how and where they might like to travel. One suggested riding a bike to Saturn!
Where would your family like to go?
