🌿 Something special is taking shape at Clifton State High School!
It might look like a worksite at the moment, but this space is the beginning of something wonderful!
Landscaping and construction are underway for our new Yarning Circle and Indigenous Food and Fibre Garden.
This space is growing into a welcoming outdoor learning environment, featuring locally sourced sandstone seating, native plants traditionally used for food and fibre, and places for students to gather, connect and learn. Plants grown in the garden will also provide opportunities for hands-on learning in our Hospitality and Food and Fibre (TFT) classes.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this project has been the way our school team has come together. Teachers, teacher aides, grounds, facilities and office staff contributed to the planning, with our grounds and facilities staff now bringing those plans to life with the expert help of local excavator operator Jesse Keys. A great example of planning, learning and doing together!
If you have an interest in, or knowledge of, native bush tucker and fibre plants and would like to help with plant selection, please contact our school office. We'd welcome your involvement!
There's still plenty of work ahead, but we're excited to see this space grow into a place that celebrates First Nations knowledge and culture, connects learning with Country, and brings our school community together.
