ROCKINGHAM HAVE A GO DAY 2026 AN ACTIVITY INFORMATION DAY FOR OVER 55’S A HUGE SUCCESS
The Rockingham Have a Go Day 2026 a LiveLighter event held in Rockingham, was highly successful, providing a fun, active and inclusive experience for older members of the community.
Our estimates for attendance at the event were:
1,200 seniors’ members of the public
198 individuals representing 85 static displays, delivered by community clubs, groups and service providers
18 volunteers and SRCWA staff
Designed specifically to support the over-55 demographic, the event encouraged older adults to stay active, connected and confident through a wide range of free, accessible activities delivered in a friendly and welcoming environment. Attendees were invited to have a go at something new or enjoy familiar activities at their own pace.
A key feature of the day was the presence of 85 static display sites, hosted by local community clubs, groups and service providers, all offering activities, information and support tailored to older adults. This created a vibrant hub where participants could explore physical activity opportunities, wellbeing services and social connections available within the local community.
Highlights of the day included group dancing sessions, opportunities to try Pickleball, Pole Walking, Hand Bell Ringing Carpet Bowls, Archery and direct engagement with organisations supporting healthy ageing and active lifestyles, and a relaxed, inclusive setting that encouraged social connection.
To ensure attendees were comfortable and well supported throughout the day, participants enjoyed free fruit provided by LiveLighter, a free sausage sizzle prepared by Lions Club of Rockingham along with tea, coffee and bottled water. Parking management was professionally managed by the Rotary Club of Palm Beach WA Inc.
We were fortunate once again to be supported by the Department of Justice WA Section 95 Trustees and staff from Wooroloo. Their assistance with the set-up, smooth running and pack-down of the event was vital in making the day a great success. SRCWA is a small team, and many of our regular volunteers are seniors over the age of 70. While their commitment and enthusiasm is outstanding, they often have limited physical capacity. The additional support from the Section 95 Trustees ensured tasks involving heavier lifting and manual work could be completed safely and efficiently, allowing volunteers to focus on engaging with the community and delivering a welcoming experience.
Rockingham Have a Go Day reinforced the LiveLighter message that being active doesn't have to be difficult - it can be enjoyable, social and suited to all abilities. The strong attendance and high level of engagement highlighted the importance of providing opportunities that support physical activity, wellbeing and social connection for older members of the community.
This event would not be possible without the sponsorship from the City of Rockingham – Local Government and magnificent supprt of Live_Lighter Healthway, the WA Government and Have a Go News. Thank you to all participating organisations, volunteers and community members who helped make the day such a success.
