β¨ Deafblind Awareness Week 2026, 'Connected by Touch: Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges' π
Deafblind Awareness Week, running from June 22nd to June 28th, celebrates the deafblind community, highlights accessibility, and promotes diverse communication methods like tactile signing and Braille.

π Perth Event: Deafblind West Australians (DBWA) are hosting a morning tea celebration on Wednesday, June 24th, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at Perth City Farm. The free event features a community art exhibition, a Q&A panel, a theatrical performance by deafblind actor Eddie Szczepanik, and the DBWA Young Leaders graduation.
π» National Online Event: Vision Australia is hosting a free Online Sensory Story Time for children with sensory needs on June 25th at 11:00 am. It incorporates Auslan, music, and on-body actions for an inclusive shared storytelling experience.
π Victorian Celebrations: Deafblind Victoria (DBV) and Deafblind Australia (DBA) are hosting a series of events running through late June, including a Deafblind Art Exhibition, Parliament House Yarn Bombing, and a "Day on the Bay" at the Beaumaris Motor Yacht Squadron.

Olivia Beasley and Hannah Britton from Sign at the Table will be joining Kelly Ah Kuoi and Teale Cullen to share their stories and insights from both sides of the pregnancy and birth journey.

Auslan 101: Introduction is more than just a language classβit's an invitation to connect.
Youβll explore how to express yourself visually through handshapes, body movement, and facial expressions, while learning how to structure Auslan sentences and engage respectfully with Deaf people. This program is designed to provide a foundational introduction to Auslan, enabling participants to build confidence in basic communication through everyday interactions. This course is highly interactive, combining direct instruction, group practice, games, storytelling, and reflection. Every session encourages hands-on participation, ensuring that learners not only watch and copy signs but understand the meaning, grammar, and cultural context behind them.
