Over the weekend Coonamble Unit sent 2 Trainers to assist with training a 4wd Course at Dubbo. This course taught people how to safely drive offroad, a skill required for getting into difficult to access areas during emergencies, part of the course was also teaching students techniques on how to safely recover their vehicle if they get stuck while driving offroad. completion of this course saw 8 more offroad qualified drivers serving Western NSW. Thanks to Dubbo Unit for hosting this course and well done to all volunteers who passed.

I’D LOVE TO JOIN SES… BUT…
We hear it all the time.
🗣️ “I’m a parent.”
💼 “I work full-time.”
✈️ “I work away.”
🌙 “I work shifts.”
🌴 “I’m retired.”
😅 “Life is just really busy.”

And you know what?
So are our volunteers 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

Our members have jobs, families, commitments, hobbies and busy lives outside of SES.

We don’t all have the same schedules.
We don’t all have the same availability.
And we definitely don’t all have endless free time.
That’s the point!

VOLUNTEERING DOESN’T HAVE TO MEAN PUTTING YOUR LIFE ON HOLD.
You give what you can. 🤲
You learn new skills. 🧠
You meet great people. 🤝
You become part of a team. 🧡

So if you’ve been thinking:
🤔 “I’D LOVE TO JOIN SES… BUT…”
Maybe your "BUT" isn’t a reason not to join.

🧡 THERE’S A PLACE FOR YOU AT THE COONAMBLE UNIT 🧡

⚠️ AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system across Australia.

‼️ On Monday 27 July, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

The test times across Australian time zones are:
• 2:00 pm AEST (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS)
• 1:30 pm ACST (SA, NT, Broken Hill NSW)
• 12:00 pm AWST (WA)

The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds.
If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.
