🔥INCIDENT CALL - Tip Fire🔥

Yesterday’s work wasn’t over when the sun went down. In the evening, our brigade was called alongside multiple other RFS brigades to the Awaba Waste Management Facility to assist with a going fire in the tip face.

Our brigade responded with both trucks and were able to commit 7 Breathing Apparatus operators to the operation. To say it stunk would be an understatement, but crews put that aside and got on with the job, working hard to round up and extinguish the fire before thoroughly soaking the area to prevent any chance of reignition.

After several smelly and sweaty hours on the fireground, our crews returned to station.

A huge thank you to the crews for their effort and teamwork in some very challenging conditions.

🔥INCIDENT CALL - House Fire 🔥

A busy and challenging early morning for our volunteers, with crews responding to assist Fire and Rescue at a going house fire in Morisset, only a short time after returning from a motor vehicle crash on the M1.

On arrival, crews were met with a fully involved single-storey residence and quickly went to work establishing fire attack, exposure protection and water supply. Our brigade also provided four Breathing Apparatus operators who undertook external fire attack.

With a large number of resources on scene, the fire was brought under control a short while later with no extension into neighbouring properties.

Although our tired members returned to station around 6:00am, the job wasn’t over. The crew were still required to restock and prepare the truck so it was ready to respond to the next emergency call.

A huge thank you to all members who turned out and gave up their night to protect our local area.

Preparing for a bush fire isn’t just about your
household – it’s about your community too.
Take a moment to think about the people around you
who may need extra support during an emergency.
A simple conversation before the bush fire season
could make a big difference when conditions change.
Consider checking in with:
• Older neighbours.
• People living with disability or health conditions.
• Families who may need help with transport before
an evacuation.
Ask about their Bush Fire Survival plan and if need
be help connect them up with your local RFS brigade
this Get Ready Weekend. A prepared community is a
safer community. By planning ahead and looking out
for one another, we can all be better prepared this
bush fire season.

🔥BUSHFIRE DANGER PERIOD🔥

Today marks the official start of the bush fire season, with the Bush Fire Danger Period beginning in the Lake Macquarie LGA.

If you’re planning on conducting a burn, you’ll require a fire permit from your local Fire Control Centre or brigade. Fire permits help ensure fire is used safely and reduces the danger to you, your property and the community.

❗️Residents and land holders must know the rules when it comes to the use of fire. Along with having the required fire permits, you need to notify your local fire authority and neighbours of your intent to burn at least 24 hours in advance.

ℹ️For more information on the Bush Fire Danger Period and requirements around safe burning, visit the RFS website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP

Preparation starts with you. When a bush fire threatens,
the decisions you make can save your life.
Firefighters will do everything they can to protect
communities, but they can’t be everywhere at once. There
is no guarantee a fire truck will be there when you need it.
That’s why it’s important to have a Bush Fire Survival Plan
and know what you’ll do before a fire starts.
Before the bush fire season:
• Discuss your Bush Fire Survival Plan with everyone in
your household.
• Prepare your home.
• Know the Bush Fire Alert Levels and when you need to
leave.
• Keep key information and important documents on hand.
The more prepared you are, the more options you’ll have
when conditions change.

The risk of bush fires is returning. After several years
of wet weather, grass and scrub has regrown leading to
an increased risk of bushfire in your local area. Ask your
local RFS members about your risk and what you can do
to prepare.
