NSW SES Corindi-Woolgoolga The NSW SES is the combat agency for floods, storms and tsunami in NSW.

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. It is made up almost entirely of volunteers, with 228 units located throughout New South Wales. The units comprise of approximately 10,000 volunteer members, who are easily identified by their distinctive orange overalls. While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm operations, the SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters.

Our crew worked through dozens of requests for help across the area. Fallen trees, damaged roofs, driveways blocked by debris, all in the rain and the mud. ⛈️

None of it happens without volunteers who drop everything when the call-out comes through. Thank you to every member who turned out, and to the families who held the fort at home. 🧡

Want to be part of the crew? We're always looking for new volunteers, no experience needed, full training provided. Message us or ask in the comments. 👇

VALE PETER WARD

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Peter Ward, our Unit Controller from 1997 to 2010, on 13 October 2026.

Peter joined our unit as a volunteer and went on to serve the community for many years across both the SES and RFS.

He was awarded a Significant Achievement Award in 2011 and was deeply respected by volunteers, paid staff and local government alike.

Peter held immense respect for the sacrifices made by volunteers and their families in support.

He was also committed to fostering the next generation of volunteers, actively encouraging younger community members to join the service.

Our thoughts are with Peter's family and friends at this time. 💙

🚨 Training Every week so we stay ready to support our community 🚨

Last night, our volunteers took part in practical training focused on Acrow props, lashing and stabilisation techniques, with a strong emphasis on safety, scene management and protecting property.👷

The team worked together to assess hazards, establish safe working areas and use appropriate techniques to help stabilise the leaning tree and minimise further damage. 🚧

Training like this is about more than knowing what to do it’s about building the skills, judgement and confidence to put those skills into practice when it matters most.

Because we don’t just want our volunteers to be competent we want them to be confident. 🧡

Train safe. Work together. Stay ready.

A great effort from everyone involved! 🙌

🪚Behind every cut is planning, communication, risk assessment and teamwork. 👷‍♂️🤝

Last night, our Corindi-Woolgoolga SES volunteers carried out tree operations training on a tree adjacent to the unit that had limbs extending over the SES facility.🏠

The team worked through hazard identification, safe cutting techniques and effective communication. reinforcing the skills we rely on when responding to storms and other emergencies.🚨

It was a great opportunity to put our skills into practice in a real-world environment while helping reduce a potential hazard to the unit and neighbouring property. 🦺

A big thanks to everyone involved for making safety the priority from start to finish. 👏
