🏛️ Victorian Government commits funds to progress the Victorian Renewable Energy Terminal

The Victorian Government has committed $124.5 million in the FY26/27 budget to progress State and Commonwealth assessment and approvals for the Victorian Renewable Energy Terminal.

We were honoured to host Minister for Ports and Freight, the Hon. Melissa Horne MP, and Minister for Climate Action, the Hon. Lily D'Ambrosio MP, at the Port of Hastings on Monday 4 May.

The Ministers were joined by local Member for Hastings; Paul Mercurio MP, Legislative Representative for Eastern Victoria; Tom McIntosh MP and Executive Director of Freight Victoria; Cameron Robinson, along with our Port of Hastings Corporation team

This funding ensures we can continue the rigorous environmental and planning work required to deliver the Victorian Renewable Energy Terminal and enable our planned role as the primary assembly terminal to support Victoria’s offshore wind industry.

Earlier this week, Port of Hastings staff took part in our annual Clean Up Australia Day event.

This year we took our bags, gloves and grabbers to the roads and surroundings of Crib Point and Stony Point jetties, cleaning up all manner of waste including plastics, glass, cans, and even a discarded car seat, from the grassland and shoreline. Our haul by the end of the day was enough to fill 5 x 120L bags and 4 x 20L buckets!

Each year, around 130,000 tonnes of plastic waste ends up polluting marine environments, and it is estimated that 99% of seabirds worldwide have ingested plastic at some point in their lives.

More than 23 million volunteers have taken part in since it was established in 1990. As a long-term steward of our local environment, we’re proud to play our part in helping keep the beautiful Western Port as clean as possible!

The Port of Hastings Corporation made a very special delivery today with a collection of toys donated to the Western Port Community Support Christmas Toy Drive to support local disadvantaged families.

WPCS are a local not-for-profit community organisation that provides Christmas hampers each year to families in the region.

Throughout November and December, our staff have been laying gifts under the office Christmas tree to help WPCS reach their goal. We’re proud to do our part to share some festive spirit and give back to our local community.
